I know he has and it's absolutely mind-boggling. Just because he was drafted 2nd overall doesn't make him a worthwhile investment. Let some other team take the risk. If he wants to sign a min deal, or at least one that's able to be fully buried, then maybe he's worth a 5th, but the people who are talking actual roster players or a 2nd or 3rd round pick are insane.

You raise a good point though: if the Sabres want anyone other than Power at 1, they should trade the pick. Someone wants that. And if that someone else is in the top-5, they need to do that.

Your point is a good one but it places a massive "bet" that Adams can deliver and incredible return from Team X for #1. Based on the Taylor Hall trade, signing Z to 3 years and Eakins to 2 years, I am not confident Adams can pull it off. If Lamoreillo was running the ship, I would take my chances with him pulling off that type of a trade.
Hopefully I am wrong and Adams nails a trade down for an amazing return.

I have a close friend that works for the Sabres. He said the plan was to talk with Rod. When I brought up The meatballs rumor from last week he said that he hadn’t heard that but knew they were going to talk to Rod. He’s not in the office so he’s not a source but he does work for the team and is close to the players.

The way I look at it, it's a risk either way.
If they're 90% sure that Power is the best player in the draft, then take him. But if there's a doubt there, they can potentially triple their lottery tickets and move down to 3, 4 or 5.
To use the above example, it's a question of: are you willing to bet that Comtois, Groulx and Eklund/Hughes/Guenther exceed the value of Power on his own?
It's certainly a conversation worth having.
They can truly solidify the team if they nail a trade

Thanks for the info, talking with Rod doesn't surprise me
