After all, ditching "bad" contracts was one of Ron Hextall's specialties in Philadelphia.
Really? Based on what exactly? - hello it's me 2050
Getting rid of Pronger's LTIR after his career ender, and including Grossmann
Getting rid of the ghost of Vinny Lecavalier's past along with Luke Schenn.
Moving out Hartnell (1 season too soon).
Dumping Dale Weise

That’s a lot of moves to make the team just as bad as they are currently. |

If I was a betting man, despite what some might feel about Tanev's contract, I'd say the only way he goes is if he's unprotected in the draft. Hextall wants more players like him, not less. |

He’s just gotta stop being a negative goal differential guy in the playoffs. |

Much harder to do when your goalie is absolutely sh!tting the bed... Tanev had a 5 on 5 92.68 HDCF% these playoffs haha |

How much do you guys think Hyman will go for? - Rinosaur
I think I saw one of the analytics guys on hockey twitter say that $5.5-6M would be an expected and acceptable range for him.
He is a solid player. If the Penguins clear Zucker or Pettersson, I wouldnt mind if they looked at Hyman. I have a feeling someone is going to really overpay for him.

I think that's a fair price. I don't know how much overpaying is going to be going on at this point with the flat cap being place for a few more years. I could see players chasing term because of the lack of cap space.

I can’t believe he is still mentioning Tanev. RW is lacking the ability to recognize Tanevs value. He’s worth that contract on every team in this league. Without him our team is pathetic and lacking character. He’s a game changing role player that is one of a kind. |

Haha. There it is. Hextall and Burke aren’t trading Tanev. He was one of 3 players that could actually compete in the playoffs. Besides, you’re not going to trade him for a better 4th line player, even though that fourth line is more like a specialty line. And to trade him for a legit scoring line player its going to be with a “not trading this player” guy. So I’m not sure exactly who or what you’re looking at to trade him for? |

I think you might be able to get Fleury back. Petterson and Jarry and a 1st might do it. That way, Vegas can expose Jarry to Seattle. - Falon
Hextall pretty much made it clear, he's done moving #1 picks. |

Did Hextall come out and say he wants to add goons/bruisers?
In Philly, he got rid of guys like Grossmann, Schenn, and Hartnell in favor of speed and skill.
I'm not seeing where it's been shown that he wants these physical, unskilled players you keep saying he wants. |

I'm not talking Tanev specifically, more a collection od posts from Rinosaur over the past few weeks.
Also, I never said Tanev was slow. And if he's a fringe 3rd/4th liner, that's fairly unskilled on the NHL level as a whole. But this is what I was referring to:

IMO moving Tanev up to the third makes it easier for Hextall to scratch his itch and find a competent gorilla for the fourth line.

It's time for the annual "trade our guys for assets and sign good free agents" fool-proof plan.
It always sounds like an obvious thing to do and an easy win but there's a reason it rarely works out that way.
That said, Coleman and Saad would be tremendous additions if either of them make to the open market. - YouMeAndDupuis9
Lol, this exactly. These always sound great when you just plug in your choice of UFAs at a reaaonable cap hit.
Pretty good chance that 2 more years of Zucker would end up being a better contract then most of the top 6 UFA forwards that get signed. Most of those you end up wanting to dump in a couple years. |
