Did Hextall come out and say he wants to add goons/bruisers?
In Philly, he got rid of guys like Grossmann, Schenn, and Hartnell in favor of speed and skill.
I'm not seeing where it's been shown that he wants these physical, unskilled players you keep saying he wants. - jmatchett383
I guess you haven't read many of the interviews with Hex and Burke. Also, You can't compare what he did in Philly. Different team, different time, different circumstances.

He was also assistant GM for the Kings cups and they were pretty big heavy teams.

I cant wait to see how this Knights and Habs game looks haha....I was just playing and the locker room after words had around half dozen Habs fans in it, none of them are overly confident haha. I'm not so sure I'd bet against the Habs even though on paper the Knights are superior. |

I think it's pretty much a consensus between Burke and Hextall they need to add size. However, I heard Burke say at least 3 times he doesn't want to change the Penguins identity of skill and offense. Just heard him say last week, while he feels they need to add size, he also understands these players need to be able to play. He also acknowledged it will be a tough task because big, skilled players are in demand and there isn't a lot of them.
I get the feeling they'll trend in the "bigger" direction but don't plan on making wholesale changes that might not be prudent. I'm really not concerned with this leadership group. Mario knows skill sells tickets. |

Tanev snot what I would call bruising. He had one big hit all year, which he was suspended for. He’s just fast and fearless. He never gives up on a forecheck or backcheck. Also has decent hockey skills |

He's a fn heart and soul guy and I'm really glad we have him but I dont get overly attached to players, so if he could be used to upgrade the team I'm for it. If he's as valuable to every GM as some say then perhaps he can be.... |

So adding an Evander Kane type player? I like the player, just not sure 7 million is in the works.

I'm not worried about them either, Hex seems to of had a very conservative approach over the years. He's not a wild west trade slinger like Ole Jimmy Ruth. I don't see them bringing in replacement level gorillas just for the sake of getting bigger. |

Hextall is so different than Rutherford. I listened to most of the post season interviews and I still don't know much about his feelings. Very elusive. I like that. I'm positive Rutherford over-paid on players because he was so open with his feelings.
Burke was Mario's hire. Mario knew Burke's opinions and preferences so I'd guarantee Mario was the driver behind a bigger team.
Man... MAF with 3 ten bells already. Really hope he wins the cup. |

Yes. Kane type player. I don't imagine it will be Kane himself. Gonna be tough to find those players. I get the feeling they'll be more methodical than people think. Draft and possibly undervalued FA's. Nobody is giving away Anders Lee types. If a hockey trade makes sense, I think they'll jump on it. |

Montreal absolutely getting in fleury’s face.
With nyi now taking a 1 game lead against Tampa it makes me feel a little better about losing to them, considering they mostly out played them and a single bounce such as the tanev tip in ot could of changes the whole series.
I would get Hamilton based on early talks with Letang/geno. If hex can save some coin on those two, say 2m per player, absolutely I try to sign Hamilton as Letang s eventual replacement. If they don’t plan on taking any discount then I guess we won’t learn to douggie. |

I think with just the carter signing it shows they have a good grasp on what will mesh with this team, both on the ice and in the locker room. I think hex’s patience will bore me after trader Jim, and I even feel shero was a pretty common trader, but that was a good trade. Got some size and skill. Just need some playoff grit now.

I said that the day Jim resigned. Gonna be more boring around here. Burke might spice things up. He's got a Rutherford streak in him. |

Except the 15 goal part while playing 4th line minutes in a defensive role and eating minutes on the PK

I can't really think of any players Ruth overpaid. Maybe Horn, but it was really just too many years vs too much money
JJ was a bad signing at any price. Most times it seems he got the better end of the deal. Either $$ or term, or both |

I have a pretty bad memory but I’d say Kap was an overpayment. Happy he’s here but still an overpayment. |
