Those 3 combined for 23 goals this past season...a 33 pace over 82 games....Rust had 22 goals this past season.... - MattStrat
Blueger was on pace for 13 over 82
Tanev for 18 per 82
Zar for 16 per 82
I low balled it, it was 47
Where do you get 33?

Because if you're paying players a combined $7.5M to play around ten minutes a game excluding the PK, then you're not spending wisely. You need to find a better way to balance that money throughout the lineup in areas that are more in need. - Rinosaur
If you are getting 15 goals per guy production in only 10 minutes of icetime than you are getting tremendous value and the answer would be to play them more, not trade them for cheaper guys

Opportunities from dangerous areas on the ice. - j.boyd919
Yeah like Guentzel banging it right into goalie pads like me playing A league because, he has no time and space to use his skills. Then complaining to refs about it. Those stats really don’t mean poop when they stand by themselves. |

Tanev is entertaining to watch. Fans love him and it's a ticket selling business. I really hope he's back next year.
One of the reasons I feel he could excel with some higher skill guys is he hounds the puck relentlessly. Defenses have to make quicker decisions when he's flying into the corner. Create a turnover and give it to someone who knows what to do with it instead of ZAR and his "hands of stone".
I really hate how Sullivan refuses to experiment with players these days. Everybody is pigeonholed. He did that constantly in his first couple of years and won a couple of cups, but no more. It drives me nuts. - madmike71
I love how Tanev plays and I just don’t think you can quantify everything that he brings. I’ve said before that I think he COULD be Dupuis-lite. Trying him out next to Carter and McCann I think would open up all kinds of room for them.
ZAR-Blueger-Freddy would be a very different line, but I think could still be effective and it’s just better asset management.

I wonder if Jake McCabe should be a target for the Pens this offseason for the 2nd/3rd LD if they can dump Petts/Matheson. 6'1" 220 lbs. Has the size to move bodies. In the 96th percentile for EV defense. 78% for PK. - j.boyd919
I like that suggestion. Seems like a reasonable target if he doesn't plan to stay there. Wonder if someone like Pettersson would interest them with the term? Even if not, might be a reasonable deal to be had. |

I also seem to remember a major uptick in PK efficiency when Dumo returned from injury. I think a factor in the Pens goalies having very bad PK HDSV% is because the D are not clearing out the bodies or rebounds on the doorstep well enough....also because they were not that good overall hahah - MattStrat
I agree this was a big problem on the PK especially early. I also thought they got better as the season went on, specifically getting Dumo and ZAR back. Could certainly use another defenseman that can play net front there. |

Do they ever play 10 minutes?
With Malkin out to start the year, they'll probably be the 3rd line again. Going to be tough to build 3 scoring lines without him.
Guentzel-Crosby-Rust
McCann-Carter-Kapanen
ZAR-Blueger-Tanev
Are likely the top 3 lines if Zucker goes in expansion before any other moves are made. I don't see them creating another bottom six line worth getting more minutes than Blueger's line. |

Could be an opportunity for gadreau to centre someone of the kids. Hopefully someone steps up. |

I don't think there was a single game in the Cup Finals against Nash where the lines were the same as they were in the previous game. Hornqvist played on all four lines and at one point Hagelin got scratched. It was wild. - Victoro311
We always joked about Sully's blender and how not to get used to lines because of it. He put that blender away the past few seasons... Only reason the lines get mish mashed at all the past few seasons has been the astronomical amount of injuries. |

I agree with that. I know I enjoy watching him play.....a lot. I've said for two years, they should give him an occasional shift with Crosby. I can't for the life of me understand why that never happens. He creates turnovers and opens up space. Sullivan's best work is when his team is all busted up (that's probably why they're keeping him). With a full compliment of players, he's got no imagination. I can't really blame Sully for Jarry's performance this past post season, but I think he was dreadful the previous three years in the playoffs. |

Advanced stats nerds don't dislike him, they dislike his contract. Most if not everyone think he's a good player, just not worth his contract.
