McCabe is a UFA after this season. - j.boyd919
Even better, although now they have to convince him to play here.
Wonder why he wasn't moved at the deadline. |

He was on LTIR, surgery on ACL, MCL and meniscus in February. May not be a good candidate to bounce back lol |

You gotta feel for those fans. I guess they're trying to bring in Eichel's old juniors coach to get him to stay.

Pretty tough spot they put themselves in... finally work up the nerve to trade him and he is submarining his value with this alternative treatment he is pushing to get.
I don't know how interested I would be in making a monster offer for him right now and if I am Buffalo, I am not trading him away for peanuts. I think he is going to stay until he can prove himself healthy and able to play at a high level.
I think the Pegulas need to step the hell away from the operations of the franchise and sit in the press box and dont touch anything. Culture is the biggest problem with that organization right now and they are the problem. They passed over control of the Bills and they are doing great. They need to hire a management team and get out of the way with the Sabres also. |

Buffalo is in a pickle because of his clause. The longest they can really wait is by next trade deadline since his NMC clause kicks in after this coming season at which point they'll have no leverage.
The most they can get for him is probably right now unless he shows by the deadline he's unaffected by the injury.

Yeah, I'm not saying you should wait long, just enough for him to get his surgery done and get some games in *hopefully* looking like his old self. I would try to trade him by the deadline this year for sure.
For the record, despite his talent, I don't think Eichel is the guy you build your team around. He seems like a bit of a malcontent and I don't think he is the type of leader that can carry a team. He needs to be plugged in somewhere with some veteran influence where he might be the most talented but he doesnt have to lead the room.
The setup in LA seems like a perfect scenario (if they could afford it). The Rangers could work, the Jets, the Hawks... lots of teams obviously but not a team that is super young (Vancouver or Detroit). |

Someone on capfriendly proposed this idea...
TO PIT: John Gibson ($1.4M retained) $5M cap hit.
TO ANA: POJ, Poulin, Jarry + 2nd 2021
Would you do it? |

I figured. PIT should definitely do it but it doesn’t make sense for Anaheim imo. |

From a rebuild standpoint I think it's a decent deal, but I'm sure other teams could probably offer more.

Anaheim would do this in a heartbeat. I'm not sure I would. Jarry poop the bed but he is still a pretty talented goaltender on a cheap deal. POJ and Poulin are about to break into the NHL on rookie contracts, one or both should be regulars this year.
Gibson is awesome but I'm really torn. Substitute POJ for Marino, take out the salary retention and add Manson to the trade and I'm in. So:
Gibson & Manson for Marino, Poulin, Jarry & a 2nd.
Or: Gibson & Manson for Petterson, Poulin, Jarry and a 2022 1st.

I guess it depends on how ANA values the Pens' prospects. I know you don't think much of POJ, but I think he's a very good prospect who's NHL-ready. The rest? Yeah, meh. I don't have a great feeling about Poulin and Jarry, well, who knows. He's not young, but in terms of his NHL development he is, so maybe he finds his way, maybe he doesn't.
Also a late 2nd in a weak draft isn't so attractive.
Overall I think other teams can offer more, but I'd do it. |

Why are you so high on POJ? Would you prefer him over Cholowski and why? |

I honestly don't know enough about Cholowski to answer that, so I won't pretend lol.
From what I saw in POJ I think he moves the puck incredibly well, has great poise, good offensive instinct, awareness and shows the potential to be above average positionally. Not to beat the dead horse, but he really didn't start to crack until they moved him up to the first pair which he clearly isn't ready for, but when he was on the third pair he was outstanding. |

Sure (I don't agree) but Anaheim isn't going to trade Gibson for Poulin, Jarry and a 2nd. The real value for Anaheim is in not having to protect Marino and having a younger option signed to a longer contract.
I personally believe Manson is a much better player than Marino and I think he would do well with Matheson. I also believe that within the next year, POJ will emerge as a far better player than Marino.
I would rather keep POJ and have Manson than just have Marino. |
