U better get used to it, it’s a real possibility - nyrangers9479
I still think it's a massive long shot but I would not be surprised either if they go down that road.
I still think 99.5% chance he gets bought out but we will see. |

1) that’s the best time to buy him. He centered Panarin in CBJ and I would almost guarantee he’d be a 70+ point guy centering him again, we can work on his faceoffs, only up from here haha.
2) I didn’t, trade him for some picks to free up cap space. - nyrangers9479
If PLD is the center they get I’d be thrilled. It just didn’t seem to gel in Winnipeg like it did in Columbus for him |

Same here but talk about a kings ransom. He might be worth more than Eichel at this point. |

If anything else happens other than a buyout, maybe it’s to let him play then deal him at the deadline. In the grand scheme of things he isn’t the type of player to get bought out. He’s very talented and still fairly young. It’s ultimately a dumb move to just let him go for nothing. What’s not on his side is org depth tho. They really won’t need him to play most likely with Nils in the picture
It is definitely a topic without JD Gorton or Quinn around anymore tho, wether Jimmy likes it or not haha |

I think that's the best way to look at it. It will be interesting for sure. We should all be welcoming any Rangers news we can. I think it will start picking up with the staff hiring's that are on their way.
Edit: Buying him out is not getting rid of him for nothing. It would bring cap space. Is it poor asset management? Absolutely. But sometimes it has to be done. |

Good first move by Drury.
Added sentimental value because yesterday was the anniversary of the 1994 Cup Win.
All of us Rangers fans will have "JD derangement syndrome" for the foreseeable future, but Gallant and Drury deserve their chance.
Better days are on the way for the Rangers and yesterday's hiring is just the beginning. - VinnyP
I don't think anyone is discounting either. Drury was the heir apparent and. I said many times Quinn was not the guy. Losing JD sucks and is bullpoop but he chose his hill to die on and it was an F-You to Dolan. Remember, he was banned from MSG for a while and there was all sorts of drama there when he left originally so I can see JD having a short fuse with this and basically was like I'm done here |

If you think it about tho, isn’t it a very dumb decision to just let him go for nothing? At least let him build up some trade value for half a season.

I was leaning that way too. But I am not going to die on this hill when the organization is so unpredictable.
Wouldn't the social media reaction be fun too? - JRR1285
leaving all that crap out of it, and sticking to hockey...
Tony D buyout saves 4.4 million of cap space that can be used to address actual needs
people really want to devote 4.8 million of the cap to the 3rd pairing right defenseman?

then why bring Lundkvist here and burn a year of his contract?

You think he jumps right to the big club? That would be nice but he might have a poop camp. |

Any time he spends building that value, he is in the way of someone else, though.
We are in the unique place of not really needing what he brings to the table right now.
I never bought the whole story of everyone loves him and it was just Quinn and Gorts. If your coach isn't in your corner, there's a very good chance you haven't given the team all you can. |

But where is he going to play if Nils pans out and jumps to the big squad.

And that is the best counter argument to him potentially being back. It makes too much financial sense when you have adequate replacements waiting in the wings.
I will say this. Despite his size I liked how he was willing to stand up for his teammates. He does seem to fit that Gallant mold.
I still think he is bought out during the first window and this argument can be put to bed for good. Or maybe a team trades for him and the full cap hit if they need trouble getting to the cap floor? |

Is anyone else excited at the possibility of Gallant instilling some nastiness/assertiveness in Kakko? I think he has all the tools to be a physical force. He just needs to utilize his size more to go through people. |

People on here complain about not having a spot for both Right handed D men Nils and Schneider. Where the hell does Tony fit at this point

I have seen the future....
the Rangers are gonna expose Tony D to Seattle in expansion draft
Seattle is going to take a different Ranger
the Rangers will then buyout Tony D and have a 333K cap hit for him this coming season
a team will sign Tony D to a 1 year 1 million dollar show me deal before the season starts
