this will never happen because it just doesnt happen these days but an offer sheet for Petterson would be great. VAN has $16m in cap space with a lot of roster spots to fill and Boeser due a raise next year. We'd also have to move out $$ and other GMs likely won't want to help us after that kind of Richard move. Again, it won't happen, but a girl can dream.

the problem with an offer sheet is that they would almost certainly match, they would take the entire 7 days to do so and in the end that takes 7 days away from the Rangers doing any other business

maybe if they are unable to accomplish anything, no trades, they miss on UFA's and it's like late August and he hasn't signed yet, maybe that's when you try pulling the trigger on the offer sheet

but my guess is that the Rangers are making moves immediately

who on the 1990 Oilers was a top 3 pick? They are team number 30 and I can't figure a top 3 pick unless I'm missing someone.

That deal is handcuffing the Leafs just as much as Marner's contract

They probably beat Montreal if pajama boy does get obliterated by Cory Perry's knee.

Word, was just going through who was not drafted by them.

What a waste of 20 minutes looking at rosters and such. If only I could get paid to do this kinda stuff...

Awful idea.
He has a problem staying healthy, and his small frame will encourage more future injuries. He doesn't play physical AT ALL and he is HORRIBLE at faceoffs! What exactly does giving him an offer sheet do for the Rangers other than destroy our cap going forward and taking away 4 future first round picks?

well i wouldnt advocate offering him $11m per season. it would be in the 1 to 2 1st round pick range plus a 2nd and a 3rd. i think the kid could easily figure out the FO thing and he's incredibly dynamic. I looked up Schiefele, Malkin, Mcdavid, Draisatl, etc and they all had around the same FO% at the begining of their careers and are now at 49% or better.

again, this will never happen but i don't think it's a bad idea (excluding the whole pissing off everyone for offersheeting an elite young player thing). definitely not worse than trading for Eichel at the very least (who also was 41% on FOs at the beginning)

I get it.

I apologize from the depths of my heart for calling you a very derogatory name. I beg for your forgiveness.

But no more trade involving Nils. We have him now, he will be the main piece of that Miller/Mcd trade. More than Lingren

The centers that you listed above are all significantly larger than Pettersson and don't fall over when a gust of wind hits them. One of the weaker part of McDavids game is his faceoffs.
Eichel is still mediocre at faceoffs and do you really think thats going to improve now that he has a neck problem?
This Rangers team needs a punishing physical presence in the middle and an offer sheet here doesn't address that need in any way.
Just a bad example all around...

Nils is a goner, maybe not right away but I don’t see where he plays on this team. Trouba has the NMC so he’s going nowhere, Fox is a Norris candidate so he’s going nowhere, that leaves 1 spot for Schneider (who plays well offensively as well) and Nils. My thinking behind it is Dolan wants the team to get tougher, Gallant likes a heavy physical team, so between Schneider and Nils which one fits that mold better? You watch these playoffs and it should be even more abundantly clear we need to get bigger and more physical. Schneider does that, Nils doesn’t. That’s just my .02 on the whole thing, not that Nils is bad, I think he’s going to be very good, just that he doesn’t fit the direction of the team at the moment.

JD had years to address that on the current roster and didn’t. And this isn’t a shot at JD, I liked the guy a lot. But drafting those types of players now that are 2-3 years away from the NHL doesn’t mean we couldn’t address it now as well. I’m not saying we need goons, but we need more Trouba’s Lindgrens Smiths Kreiders(when he’s playing physical) etc on this team. Not every player has to play that way, but you need more of it up and down the lineup.

JD didn't even last two years
