He is eligible, and does need to be protected. This past year was his 3rd full pro season in north america. 2 years in Bingo then this year in Jersey
You can just use the expansion feature on cap friendly to see who is eligible to be selected if you dont know. - vlongo4419
In that case, we just need to protect: Blackwood, Nico, Bratt, Zacha, Wood, Kuokkanen, Sharangovich, Severson and one of McLeod/Bastian. Let the dice roll on whoever Seattle wants of what's left. No one else is worth giving up a pick to keep. |

I have a suspicion that the Devs will get creative during the expansion draft. When you look at the projected unprotected players list, Devs aren't getting hit too hard. You have to imagine that some GM's are trying to get creative with how to move their Cap around, and the Devs are just sitting here with lots of different options..
Edmonton needs to get rid of Koskinen desperately, and perhaps one of Broberg/Bouchard can be worked into a deal. They already have Klef, Nurse, Russell, Bear all signed and I doubt they let both Larsson and Barrie walk into free agency. Lots of domino's to fall on that blueline. |

You sure about this? When I use this feature on the site you are referencing Sharangovich is not shaded in green, and toggling between protecting him/exposing him does not count towards the forwards total we have to leave unprotected. Looking at this site we should be exposing for certain: Subban (to meet D requirement) and Johnsson. This means we need to expose one of Bastian, Wood, Zacha, or Bratt. Im thinking we signed Bastian to expose him if this site is accurate.

Yes, im sure. He's not shaded green because he is currently not under contract. He's an RFA. It was the same for Bastian, he wasnt green until he signed his extension. He 100% needs to be protected. Fitz even mentioned how his season changes the landscape of who they need to protect in his end of season presser.
If he wasnt eligible to be selected, he would be under exempt. |

It'll be our last high pick in a while I think. Once we breakout next season, there is no looking back.Yes, Im calling playoffs next season. |

I agree that this *should* be our last high pick. I dont think i can confidently say playoff team for sure, but i fully expect to be a bubble team and playing meaningful games in the final month next season. I expect to be making the playoffs in 2 seasons |

Huge if true
I don't think we really need to sweat the expansion draft unless we trade to ease another team's burden before hand. Worst thing we lose is merkley or mcleod in our current state, and after mcleod showing some life last season Id prefer to put him ahead of merkley on the protection list.
7/3/1:
Hischier
Wood
Zacha
Bratt
Sharangovich
Kuokkanen
Mcleod
Severson
Butcher
Siegenthaler--not married to this, just covering the 3rd we shelled out for another 6/7 D, it makes me very sad when looking at our D
Blackwood
__________________________________________________________________
Outside of merkley, who I am holding about as much hope in as a lottery ticket, who are you guys afraid we may lose?
Conversely, is there anyone out there you would like to see Fitz make a (realistic) pre-expansion draft play for from another team?

Yeah not sweating the expanion draft at all. We're going to lose a replaceable player, and the forwards are cut and dry. The exposed forwards will be Bastian, Merkley, and one of McLeod/Johnsson
Now for defense it a bit different. Based on the rumors, we're targeting a D prior to the expansion draft. Severson and Siegenthaler are locks to be protected and that 3rd slot is up in the air. It will likely be a trade acquisition. As we've already been linked to Ristolainen, Hamilton, and Ghostisbehere. Dunn is an option that we should be all over, and hes available. Dumba might be also available because Minny may have a problem protecting him. Not sure who it will be, but i expect a D to be added before the expansion draft. So that will leave Subban and Butcher exposed. If a D isnt brought in, either Subban or Butcher get the 3rd slot |

Speaking of D... I was wondering if the Devils gave a serious offer to Pietrangelo and he declined. Now he's a few game from Cup finals. Wouldnt that have been a major mistake from his part! I wonder how much a player can recognize how close a team is to winning or seriously contending. Either a signing like that and he got very lucky choosing or Vegas is just that damn good, even without Gallant. |

I highly doubt we ever gave him a serious offer. It seemed pretty well known that he was going to Vegas from day 1, he just needed to wait to let them figure out their cap situation and make it work. He didnt fit the age range with this team and it wouldve been a waste of money from the Devils perspective, as well as it just didnt make sense for him because we wouldnt be a contender in the remaining prime years of his career. If we signed him, that wouldve been the textbook definition of spending money to just spend it, and theres no doubt we would've had to have given him even more money than Vegas did to get him here.
Hes already 31 and after this season will have 6 years left at 8.8M with a full NMC, thats going to be brutal for the last 2-3 years. Same reason i dont want Dougie for 7 or 8 years, but i would love him at 5 |

Rumors are heavy Eichel going to Ducks. Certainly their first goes to Buff... Entirely possible Hughes will be off the table if Buff get 2 of top 3 picks. Who would you all want if this happened? |

I think that's who they would take too. Power and Hughes, then build around those 2 as well as Dahlin and Samuelsson on the back end. If that does happen im totally fine with Clarke, Eklund, or Guenther. Give me any of those 3 over Edvinsson though. I'm not Hughes or bust so it doesnt really matter to me |

I would choose Clarke. Seems like he'll be a great all around D man. Def a D though for our pick.. Is Holtz coming to NJ next year? |

He'll either be in NJ or Utica, yes. Same with Mercer |
