It’s funny how you keep drumming this 975k story. I mean our most effective bottom six player has arguably been Motte who barely made more than that. How much did Leivo make?
Maybe that’s the kind of thinking that bemoans the $10 M 4th line. - golfingsince
I guess the real funny thing is that 6 mil bottom 6 crowd wants their cake and to eat it too lol. Want a PO team but don't wanna pay for it.
I agree Motte was our best bottom 6 player...and we missed the PO's. With Beagle Sutter and Rousell we beat Minny STL and almost beat Vegas to make the conference finals last year. But with Motte, Highmore, Vesey and Boyd we got what I expected. Is what it is. Do we need a 10 mil 4th line? well of course not but you DO need a mix of a few vets back there to get things done. And if you have to pay for a few so be it.
All I'm saying is that be careful what you wish for and sometimes in this world...just sometimes, you get what you pay for.

If there aren't any good trade deals to be had to pry a solid young piece out of a cap-strapped or expansion-strapped team, then Larsson is one guy that I can see/sort of hope they go after. Doubtful he'd sign for what the team could offer, but it'd be nice...
Schmidt - Myers
Hughes - Larsson
Rathbone - Hamonic/cheap vet - NewYorkNuck
Q Hughes - Schmidt
Myers - L Hughes/Clarke
Rathbone - Hamonic
Unless we trade the 9th for Reinhart lol |

and sometimes walking away rather than overpaying is the better decision in the long run. but that means recognizing the difference between value and overpayment. kinda like knowing the difference between a few games in summer and multiple seasons. |

That's pretty terrible, to be honest. You're assuming two rookies step in and produce in big minutes right away? Hughes or Clarke (one of which is LHD and one is RHD, by the way) aren't going to be ready at all next year. |

I mean, it’s what Canuck fans do every off season. How many times did we hear OS Cernak last year? - 1970vintage
Benning and company would clearly match the $8,726,188 but they'd be screwed next year for cap. |

Tampa is already over the cap by millions next year so Cernak should be a target if Benning likes him |

This is cherry picking at its finest though. We have a 6 million dollar player who can't even crack the bottom 6. Our bottom 6 making 6 million is fine if they give you the same depth and production as the rest of the league, but ours provides next to no impact other than to give our top 6 bench rests. The Habs 4th line of perry/armia/staal have combined for 9 goals, 23 points in 13 playoff games. What was the canucks 4th line production for the regular season? |

Because their bona-fide top 4 defenseman who is signed to a team friendly term contract is the contract they would be looking to offload. That's like saying the canucks should offload horvat because the canucks are in cap troubles and he is signed to one of the team friendly deals.. come on Nucker... |

Josh Manson is a great choice. The free agent market is where I would lean on a 1 year contract (like what the canucks gave hamonic). The canucks need to be complacent for 1 more year and go all in next off season when a bunch of bad players are gone and the cap is freed up |

So what you’re saying is that we won one playoff round in all the years of those contracts in a year that we might not even have made them without a play-in.
Oddly enough, we also had Taney and Edler during those playoffs playing more impressive minutes but for the past 4-5 years it’s been get rid of them from you.
I guess we’ll now refer to you as the 975k defence crowd. |

People pick and choose things around here, but that's pretty egregious. Motte played in the playoffs and helped beat all those teams, and Sutter/Beagle/Rous all played more games than Vesey Boyd Highmore and Motte this year.
As well, those guys aren't the reason the Canucks really won or lost, they're supporting cast, they're not carrying the team to the playoffs. - NewYorkNuck
Lordy's a nice fella, but none too bright. Jesus, just look at Beagles stats, he was terrible in the playoffs that year. He was expected to defend and his Corsi and Fenwick were so terrible to go with his 11 shots in the playoffs and 2 points.
Everyone with an ounce of intelligence could see that goaltending carried them in both the Blues and Knights series, they'd have lost four straight if it wasn't Markstrom and Demko. St. Louis's goaltending was just awful in that series, the Canucks beat them despite being outshot 229 to 165 and Binnington had a .851 save percentage to Markstroms .920
Things were even worse in the Vegas series, the Canucks were outshot 271 to 164 and Demko had a save percentage of .985 |

As shown by the numbers the Canucks can try to make big moves. JB has stated this too. This wait another season narrative only applies if Canucks miss out on their top player targets. |
