Teams would be looking at Austin Martin for a top tier pitcher right now.
the cost would be high. - senstroll
You can get away with trading a good outfielder for a few good arms for the bullpen. Don’t trade a top prospect. |

Hyman maybe depending on the length. Foligno I’d really want to know how hurt he was in the playoffs cause he sure didn’t show me anything. |

You don't need a top tier pitcher though and you don't need to pay that. Look at all the players AA got for all those overrated, crappy prsopects in 15' - RogerRoeper
yes at the trade deadline, not the middle of june.
what RP did AA add, Lowe is pretty much it for impact player.
at the moment you are looking over the junk piles if you dont want to trade a decent prospect |

Nope
At least Engvall can make a pass.
Mikey makes Leo Komarov look like Mario Lemieux - Garnie
Our glorious new vision was all about speed
Now we are trading away speed for experienced gritty vets. We do need size and toughness, but not at the expense of speed
We have become slow, quickly 😔
I would have kept all 3 of Kapanen, Mikheyev and Engvall
Mikheyev is the best defensive forward/PK on the team (with Hyman gone). Also severed tendons in his wrist recently, expecting improved scoring next year

You can trade a good prospect, you just don't need to trade a Martin.

I like Mikeys speed and I hope he gets his hockey sense back but I also like Engvall, even though some games/shifts you shake your head at him.
Playoffs he had some great stats, everything except goals |

Foligno was making 5.5. He'd be taking a 2.5 mil paycut. |

Great he's fast....does nothing else really.

Sure. But Leafs give him a much better chance of winning than Columbus. No one knows what that team will look like next season. |

Yeah he could be at the stage of his career where money isn't an issue.
If he wants money neither CBJ or Toronto are going to be the ones to give him it. |

I say no to Foligno regardless, let him go back.
And if Hyman wants too much Petan can replace him.

Dude. 7 years later Thats not success.
Why? Because he just had one of the best regular seasons in Leaf history.
ffs in the past the Leafs have traded 23 year olds who STRUGGLED in the regular season and it still came back to seriously bite them.
Now we want to trade a 23 year old star because of playoffs? Relax Marner will figure the playoffs out and if its not here it will be somewhere else and I don't want that.
I'm completely over the Leafs giving up on young players because they don't have immediate team success. I'm over them setting themselves back.
Trading Marner would be extremely dumb, and they aren't doing it. - Santo_44
I don't give a (frank) what the Leafs have done in the past with young players. I don't care if they blossomed after being traded or flamed out. It's a completely irrelevant and emotional argument.
My reasons for moving on from Marner are pragmatic: his salary is absurdly high compared to his production. He has been underwhelming for 3 straight playoffs. The Leafs core is completely front loaded with 3 players earning 33M.
If the Leafs traded Marner they may not get a player of his pedigree back and I'm completely fine with that. But that doesn't mean the returns for him couldn't be put to excellent use in terms of either futures (picks/prospects) or multiple players who make this club much more difficult to play against.
I think Mitch Marner is a wonderful hockey player and I'd hate to let him go. But it sure as poop isn't "extremely dumb" to consider moving his contract.
You sound like that type of fan who suffers from PTSD because of past trades (Courtnall, Kurvers, et al.). If anyone needs to relax, it's you, bud. |

Foligno will be 34 in October. Winning is likely what's most important to him at this stage of his career. |
