We already did that.
I think we had 9 guys with captain experience at one time:
2003-04
Mogilny (did it with Buffalo temporarily due to an injury)
Sundin
McCabe
Nieuwendyk
Nolan
Fitzgerald
Leetch
Francis
I think I'm missing a guy. - Atomic Wedgie
Great team 👍

It’s better than waiting 22 years like Bourque.
If the Caps were smarter and traded them instead of letting them go to Free Agency, they could’ve won sooner with pieces they got back. Although Green’s downfall was primarily concussions. - Steven_Seagull
Deleting Semin from their core set them back.
Overreacting to not having immediate success set them back. |

Caps missed the playoffs after losing Semin.
Not exactly the best comparisons for you....
Was 28 when they got rid of him....35 when Caps won the cup. |

Every year? Out of Semin's 6 years as a Cap, he had more than 54 points 3 times. Mike Green put up points, that is it.
Ovy, Backstrom and Carlson have been the Core - xShoot4WarAmpsx
From the 2006-2007 season to 2011-2012, Semin was:
2nd
5th (missed 19 games)
3rd (missed 20 games)
3rd
3rd (missed 17 games)
2nd
Carlson was a young player, he wasn’t the top D on that team until Green’s final year with the Caps in the 2014-2015 season. |

From last blog.
Would I take J Toews if Chi get 50% of the contract?
Toews at 5.25 for two years?
Yeah I would.
Plus he could be on IL for a while no?
Open up some cap space?
Move Toews to the wing on one of the top lines. Damn! - Fakepartofme

Somebody Matthews Nylander
Somebody Eichel Somebody
Somebody Tavares Somebody
Spezza Toews Somebody

There is a lot of things the caps should have done. Overreacting them is one of them because it costed them and pushed them back.

They won the Cup without him and other stars. I think that was the point, no?
Moving on from a player in their prime and choosing a different course happens all of the time. Why are we so in love with Marner? Why the religious devotion to the Core 4? |

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of Dougie Hamilton that thoughts acquire speed, the lips acquire stains, stains become a warning. It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.

A long time ago when the Earth was green
And there was more kind of animals than you’ve ever seen
They run around free while the Earth was being born
But the costliest of them all was Dougie the unicorn
Altogether now
There were green alligators and long necked geese
Some humpty back camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you’re born
The costliest of all was Dougie the unicorn |

The narrative is that the Leafs should stay the course because they will obviously win. That breaking up the Core 4 is "overreaction" and fan bs.
Marner is a regular season performer. Semin and Green were regular season performers.
Starting to see the correlation? |

They also won the cup with a majority of a different roster......Ovechkin and Backstrom are literally the only guys who were on that team from start to finish. Different GM and Different coach. Prabably different ice girls too if they have them

Red Wings once traded Keith Primeau, Paul Coffey and a 1st for Brendan Shanahan and Brian Glynn. Sometimes you have to shake things up. |

The plan isn’t going to work. 3 guys in the top 7 highest cap hits while in a flat cap. Brilliant plan. Can’t wait to see the excuses next year. Bad luck, injuries, the sun was in their eyes, the refs hate us. Can’t wait. |

So keep Matthews and Nylander. And ditch Marner and Rielly.
But unlike what the Caps did, trade them so you get something back. |

Dude. 7 years later Thats not success.
Why? Because he just had one of the best regular seasons in Leaf history.
ffs in the past the Leafs have traded 23 year olds who STRUGGLED in the regular season and it still came back to seriously bite them.
Now we want to trade a 23 year old star because of playoffs? Relax Marner will figure the playoffs out and if its not here it will be somewhere else and I don't want that.
I'm completely over the Leafs giving up on young players because they don't have immediate team success. I'm over them setting themselves back.
Trading Marner would be extremely dumb, and they aren't doing it. |

Marner has 25 points in 32 games...... Thats .78 PPG. Semins is 0.66 PPG. Marner is literally 9 points behind Semin in career playoff points. He has half the amount of seasons in the NHL than Semin
Marner is 3% off of Backstroms PPG in Playoffs |

Semin had 22 of his 34 points in the first two years he made the playoffs. Only 12 in the remaining 3 years.
Marner has 13 of his 25 points in the first two years. Only 12 since. 18 game goalless streak and he makes 10.9M. Oh we are screwed. |
