If you do something like that, it needs to be on short term deal. You might get Savard short term but I don't know about Martinez. Also have to hope that players like York and Zamula develop to take over for aging players.
- MJL

Martinez is no spring chicken, so it would not be long term
You always hope your young guys develop to take over, can throw wylie and millman, maybe Attard in the mix too, they should hopefully see some time down the road. Obviously not the same ceiling as York or Z, but good for the bottom of the lineup.

“do, however, think that the Flyers could benefit from getting a little faster, a little bigger/grittier and adding another capable scorer.”

Schwartz is a good player but brings almost zero of wht this team needs to the table. No size. No grit. The two most important things for this horrendously soft team.

Schwartz, TK & Farabee are almost the same exact player.

Schwartz a good player. Not even remotely close to being a good fit for this team. Hard pass!

Joel Armia is more of the area flyers should look. Not as good as Schwartz but more of wht they need currently.

- Fopa21

Schwartz can fly. Farabee is not particularly fast. TK is a good skater, but not as good as Schwartz.

Although not a fixture on PK, Schwartz can kill penalties as needed. TK cannot.

Schwartz may not be big or strong but he competes. Size and muscle element would have to come from a different addition.

Hamilton is not soft. He would be a serious upgrade for this team. What is Martinez going to sign for? Morin didn't look like a player the Flyers can count on in any manner for next season.
Why did you change your mind that Larsson is a 3rd pair defenseman who wouldn't help the Flyers?

- MJL

We can agree to disagree about Hamilton. I watched a few of Carolina's playoff games this year and what I noticed the most was Hamilton lacks all the things you need from your number 1 defenseman come playoff time. Regular season, yippee, he skates and sets up nice PP goals. Come playoff time, how does he do with limited space and time, and does he deter the other team from dumping the puck in on his side of the ice? Where it counts the most, Hamilton IMO would not make the Flyers D-core any more formidable than it is now.

The same conversations we are having in Philly about the Flyers are being had in Boston also. The same players, the same deals, the same lamenting over another failed season. Who can we get to play with Charlie McAvoy? The narrative up here is the Bruins are not interested in Hamilton either, because he is soft.

Regarding Larsson, I dug into his numbers more and also watched a few games, both the regular season and playoffs. I like his coverage in his own end, I like the minutes he eats up, I like how physical he is and most of all, I like his projected price. I thus concluded his is a realistic option of the Flyers vs. spending all your cap space on 1 player.

They won't take Frost. They want an established forward.
- MJL

We can give them Jake

If the Flyers are going to look at UFA forwards, Blake Coleman is a player I would have serious interest in.
- MJL

Agree with you on him. I like his game. I actually had two other names I thought could be fits but didn't score as much as him. Brock McGinn and Barclay Goodrow.

Attard should be sooner, he is already early 20s i think. . But i'm no guru, depends how they develop. Of course everyone would like players to be able to contribute sooner than later. ....well almost everyone

Maybe Attard takes the Wyatt Kalynuk route.

My guess is that Martinez would not sign with the Flyers for less than 4 years. I also believe he would want to sign with a team ready to contend.

Nice! He put up good numbers this year in limited minutes, and should be affordable.

The flyers wouldn’t know what to do with Schwartz if they got him. They tried to turn ghost into a defensive defenseman

I don't think Martinez leaves Vegas unless they want to move on from him. With the right moves the Flyers can be ready to contend, however if Fletcher can't free up space and change the mix on this team, I agree Martinez will look elsewhere.

It's not credible to suggest that a defenseman of Hamilton's caliber would not make the Flyers defense more formidable. He is an impact player.

Feel free to provide the documentation of that.

So he's not the 3rd pair defenseman that you claimed he was in previous conversations? How can we be sure that your analysis of Hamilton as a player is not equally off base?

Well I would hope the Flyers wouldn't try to do that with Schwartz since he is a LW.

I think it's a big mistake for any Flyers fan to think that there are moves that can be made this off season that will transform the Flyers to true contender status. If anyone is looking for Fletcher to do that, prepare to be disappointed. He can improve the team but to what end. With what future cap implications. Flyers are in very dangerous spot.

To many no size no muscle: G, TK, Farabee, Frost. You can’t win like that. Look at Montreal for years size was always the issue. This year bring in edmundson, perry, anderson, staal at deadline & look at the run they’re on.

Talk about speed all you want but come playoff time & rivalry games, one goal games you have to have grit toughness & size.

Like I said they are all virtually the same players. Yes, everyone does a little something differently but all are basically the same. Schwartz would be a disastrous signing.

It's unfortunate the corporate fat cats above Fletcher feel otherwise. I feel one of those "make a big move for the sake of making a big move" is coming.

Whaaat, what are you talking about. Apparently this guy is worth 2 roster players, a prospect and a draft pick. Minus a goalie you could ice a team with what columbus wants. You mean to tell me he cant carry a line?
