Watched little of the game last night. I did catch Babcock responding to the disparity in shots, "the name of the game is to score more goals, not get more shots." With Neanderthal thinking like that, he'll never coach again.

Lol, how is that Neanderthal thinking? He is providing commentary.

Don't you pay attention to all the stat boys on here? Doesn't matter who wins, just who has the fancy stats. It's all about Corsi, PDO, blah, blah, blah.

No matter who the Pens have start in net next season they need to focus on reducing the quality chances against. Ultimately it won't matter who is in net if they do not.

Between Matheson and Petterson Matheson did much better last season. Matheson played up to his contract while Petterson did not. Matheson's contract is one year longer and about $850k more per year than Petterson's. I think they should protect Matheson (despite the length of his contract) and expose Petterson in the expansion draft. I don't think that Seattle will take either anyway - definitely not Petterson. I expect Seattle to take a forward.

I'm with you 100% here.

As far as the Matheson/Pettersson argument, I like the idea of protecting Friedman and exposing both. Better chance of Seattle taking one if both are available.

Fleury had the worst brain fart ever, but he’s been outstanding so far. He’s probably the reason they beat Colorado.
- Rinosaur

They beat Colorado because Colorado is a one line team and Stone shut them down.

You for one. Sure you twist things around and find a reason a team won. Usually if a team wins and the numbers say they shouldn't have. oh they PDO'd their way. A good example would be the 2017 Penguins.

Babcock's statement was a clear and direct shot at analytics.

I'm certain he's been told he can't coach because he doesn't embrace fancy stats. I know I've heard it here.

Stats are what matters! Wins/losses are secondary. If you won the stat battle but lost the game it must have been luck! Most of the bloggers on here believe that, especially that detroit fanboy...

Poor MAF. That was an "all timer" type gaff last night. Probably his only flaw... stickhandling.

I don't know of any bloggers that believe that. It's comical that the anti-stats people skew their perception to fit their own narrative.

31 teams in the NHL have analytics departments. Every team in the NHL uses them. Every GM uses them. Every coach uses them to an extent. It's such a tired statement to think that analytics and hockey don't mix.

It's situational hockey. Vegas is already in defensive mode. Risk/Reward says stay in your crease in a 1 goal game as you probably have enough guys back even if your defenseman takes the hit with the puck in the corner

He needs to stay in position to make saves, not the negligible gain of stopping the puck behind his net to make his defensemans job 1% easier

Bad things happen when a goalie is behind his net with an oncoming forecheck. Turnovers, goalie trips or gets caught in a sea of players and can't get back to his crease, misplays like the one we saw, etc

Wanango is beautiful course. Short, wide fairways, not a lot of trouble. Quite a few blind shots, particularly off the tees. Greens are well maintained, they are sloped as is typical with older courses.

Definitely a course you need to play if you enjoy the game. You don't need to shape your shots, but it helps if you can. I shot one stroke over my average, so it is a course you can and should score on. I hope to play it again, worth the time and effort.

- Thunderbolt

Thanks man, yea I do enjoy playing. It's been a while, I'll have to check it out. I've never been to Tionesta but have always wanted to go.

Babcock isn’t coaching because he can’t win the games that matter and on top of that he’s a douche. Kind of ironic he’s your example.
