Pettersson is not overpaid. Pettersson is a legit #4 dman. Both Pettersson and Marino had rough starts to the season, but rebounded nicely, yet people got a bug up their asses about them and couldn't let go.

It's also not between Marino and Pettersson, it's between Pettersson and Matheson. Pettersson doesn't need to be gone, but he will be gone for the simple fact he actually has value and his contract is moveable.

I don't think they are at all. I'm deluded to think they're a major contender, but I think they're in better position to make a few tweaks to still give them a shot the next year or two than where the Wings were.

The problem is that he has no value above replacement and is on board for what, 5 more years? The perfect example is what we did with Ceci this year. Brought him in on a super cheap deal and he supplanted Marino in the top 4. Everyone on the D can't make +$4M... there just isnt enough to go around. You have to be willing to take chances on guys you think can rebound in your system every so often, especially when you are looking at bottom pair guys.

I'm not sure what his market is. My understanding is that the deal he refused with Montreal was for 5 years @ $5M at the start of the season. He didn't have a great season and was publicly pissed off about getting pushed back in the roster for part of the season. I suggested we offer $4.5M which isn't that far off, so you can nickel and dime me on a bunch of poop but reality I was just playing around with some ideas there captain serious.
