Canucks would need to fire Green and hire Lane Lambert, Trotz right hand man if this team was seriously to play defensive hockey. That’s right in one year they were worst defensive team coached by Doug Weight and anchored by Panama BOy in his prime to one of the most structured D teams. They drafted some good D and had total buy in from the forwards to the D. Trotzes system are team based low event hockey. Back on the left coast we are Stuck with JB and Green, expected some brutal D but high event hockey at least unti Green and JB are gone. Next years Canucks will be last in goals against. - Leo_Union

Need the horses on D still. Green hasn’t had a roster that can play that way yet. All top picks are playing & still young & are F’s. OJ Hughes & Rathbone are yet to hit their prime. RHD is the big sore spot. JB has a lot of work to do filling in the holes. |

I agree Myers would have to go back, great deal if so - neem55
Makes no sense at all whether you want him gone or not. More LHD doesn’t address the right side. Don’t hold your breath Myers is not going anywhere lol |

You've gone full Nucker if you think OJ, Hughes and Rathbone are gonna one day learn to be great defensive dmen.

Didn’t quantify their ceiling only said too young to make the call.
Adding OEL & his cap hit is not the way to go imo. If it were to happen then young LHD is trade bait & also more cap has to go out. Given that next year is a year of many expiring contracts I’d be surprised if any big contract is added that isn’t a 3C or RHD. |

Don't think Larsson will sign for less than he's currently making, and apparently Hyman is looking for about 6? - NewYorkNuck

Yes heard 6m but that’s dreamin imo. All I’m saying is try for him at our price. 4m for RHD might be doable either Larsson or Savard idk. |

They’d like to but cap space is at a big premium for them. Won’t take much to take them outta the picture. He was only 2.25m. |

Happy Father’s Day to those of you manly enough to have planted your seed. For the rest of you, there’s still time, you probably just need to surround yourself with some guys who are good in the room to show you how it’s done. Might be a bit awkward , but I’m sure you will find a way to power through. |

My ACGM was a blueprint for possible signings. Mostly showing how to use the cap & not necessarily the who or how many holes to be filled. There are various combos at JB’s disposal. |

Curiosity time lol...
So what position to target & whom to start filling holes?
Imo an OS is my go to but rarely happens but I go Copp at 3m per costs a 2nd. Force Jets hand or move onto a UFA like Wennberg for a similar hit.
A UFA RHD can also be done say Savard at 4m per.
Priority is a RHD & 3C in any order but at least get 1 done. I think 1 is doable takes a cap dump to do both.
Bridging Petey at say 3/7m. Hughes a bridge at 2/5.5m less cuz D suffers or longer term at 6m maybe accepted. He needs a partner my reasoning. |

I like your thoughts on Hughes and Petey and we may have gotten lucky in the flu year with their contracts. See where it goes.
thinking of a RHD and 3LC is required first like you said. Will be interesting to see how it shapes out. Don't really need to chase OEL with Hughes here IMO. Edler needs to go but I fear he'll be back for one year maybe two? Maybe RNH but the issue is he is super soft in PO's. But doesn't really fit the 5.5 mil total bottom 6 moniker...lol |

I guess the question I would ask is - from the player’s perspective, why would they sign a below market contract with the Canucks?
Remember, the league is withholding a percentage of all contract values, and escrow is increased until revenue starts to normalize. So signing a bargain contract means a triple reduction in salary.
I mean, sure, Hayman might be enticed to play with Petey and Miller, surely a better combo than Matthews and Marner. But what if Höglander has a good camp, Hayman struggles to start and he ends up playing with Grayovac or Beagle? |

Honestly, it’s just one more year until the problems of the past start to work themselves out. Next season is a problem for Jim because he’s basically promised playoffs, but his real focus should be the 2022 season. Beagle, Roussel, Eriksson and Luongo all expire. I don’t imagine Boeser gets a raise (depending on Petey’s bridge), they still have Miller and Horvat at a good number, and there will be more opportunity to improve as there will be more optimism in the market with an entire year of fans in the stands behind them.

There's a tough balance this year between hitting the UFA market and priming the team for this season, and sort of holding off on paying premiums since next season the cap really opens up. It'd be hard to tell the players (Bo and JTM especially) that they're gonna suck for one more year before they can compete – that'd just show the gross incompetence of JB.
But pushing chips in now and trading off assets to free up space isn't a great plan either, especially with the money off the books next year and a lot of potential great UFAs.
I would like them to get a good 3C and RHD this year, and then see how the rest goes. I want Wennberg and Larsson for those roles, as they're not gonna break the bank and they're still young enough to play well the next few years. Maybe there are some great steals to be had off teams with cap or expansion issues, but I think filling those two positions and then rounding out the team from within is the way to go for one more year. |

Exactly why JB needs to stay out of the tier one UFA market. Sign EP & QH and go into the season with what you have. |

Think AL will cost you a Myers contract. Bottom line, it’s going to be tough to both improve the team and avoid mortgaging the future. |
