No update on Jan Rutta or Erik Cernak from Jon Cooper

Medical personnel have been looking at the guy since the second period last night and...there's no update at all? No word on if it's so bad that his head fell off, or if he just needed a band-aid? No one knows if it's a concussion or a bruise? It's a medical mystery?

Since injuries, or lack thereof, inform supplemental discipline decisions, it's kind of lame they're going to just keep silent probably until two seconds after the league makes a decision on Barzal.

That's exactly what they're doing.

Of course they are going to play it up to their benefit, however he did take a blow to the head so maybe the league stepped in with Concussion protocol?

That is 100% what they’re doing and that’s 100% why he didn’t play in the third last night. The guy got up and walked out on his own without even a mark on his face.
- Cptmjl

Everyone here has played enough that they've likely been clocked in the face by a stick or a puck along the way. It's not a typical natural reaction to drop down and lay motionless. Normally you grab or favor the area struck. Barzy has a habit of keeping both hands on his stick when he goes at people or fends off checks and it's going to make him a 'repeat offender'. That said, I seriously doubt THAT instance knocked Rutta out, which is precisely how he tried to make it appear. We'll see if it worked.

Maybe. Maybe they have the entire WHO huddled around Rutta in a hospital room right now trying to unravel this medical conundrum.

I guess the only way we'd know is with an update for something they've probably already known for about 15 hours now (as in, yes, he has a concussion and can't play; or no, he's fine).

They also don’t provide any injury updates in the playoffs anyways.

You can't recklessly wield the delta variant like that and just get away with a fine.

A lot of people have criticized Barzal for his outburst, but at least he was showing some emotion. Outside of him, Martin, and Clutterbuck, the Isles didn't have much physical pushback. I hope Rutta is OK, but man, seriously, why waste a possible suspension on Rutta? If you are going to coldcock somebody, make it count and pop Kucherov or Point in the kisser.

My thoughts exactly.

Though I’d rather it not have been Point. He’s the only Bolt I like.

If he has a concussion I'm sure the Bolt's have informed the NHL of that for their ears onlyt. I don't think they would come out and make it public knowledge either way as most injuries are not disclosed one way or the other.
I hope he isn't suspended and don't think he should be. If he is it would be a real downer going into a must win game 6.

Based on previous player safety announcements I think we would have heard about a fine or hearing by now.

Yeah Barzal definitely hit the linesman's arm down to try and get him from holding him by his jersey. I was surprised no one mentioned it, Thanks God!

Not getting anything from the league is surprising. Isles want to know asap to get ready for game 6 and establish their lineup/Line combo's if indeed he is suspended.

True, but if not, why not come out and say there is no further disciplinary hearing or action on the Barzal, Ruuta infraction? Word either way for clarification isn't much to ask for imho.

Trotz says he has heard nothing from Player Safety. To a degree, if no fine is issued, it woukd appear they agree with our assessment of Rutta's response.
