Mitchell may not be an overly large physical specimen, but in the limited ample size I’ve seen, he seems a lot more blue collar than Boqvist to me. More like an Oduya type. Not big, but still gritty. - Ogilthorpe2
I'll be sure to watch more closely this coming season. |

I didn't say they would add a impact player but consider adding one. - Scott1977
There are three ways.
A. Draft and develop
B. Trade
C. Sign as a free agent, whether overseas or NHL UFA.
Drafting takes awhile, unless you have a really high pick. Trade requires giving up some of your valued prospects if you're looking for an impact player.
Free agents are often near the end of their useful years and put you in cap hell.
My point is that getting impact players is not like going to 7-11 for a case of Hamm's. If you get a chance at one before you're ready, you might wanna change the plan.

That's how I view Kalynuk as well. |

Agree so hawks give uo a 20 year old in Dach who could be and most likely be imo a better all around player than echiel who in own right is a very good player. Plus 4 or 5 more years at 10 million and the 11th overall pick um no. Stay the course keep building for the future maybe after this season hawks look to add a impact player. - Scott1977
Hmmmm Eichel is an excellent hockey player when healthy. One of the best players in the game.
Buffalo has to be somewhat prepared to eat some of that since they aren't going to get comparable value but itll be interesting to see how it all pans out. I think you'd want to be careful about taking on a player that just had neck surgery without seeing how he recovers and starts the season or having your doctors involved in the treatment.
Dach is not really at that same talent level. Still a productive player but not franchise changing. |

Few and far between, for sure. It isn't easy to find a difference maker. |

So Nylander is exempt from the expansion draft. He’s considered a 2nd year player because he missed the entire season.
Everyone can breath a sigh of relief, Nylander isn’t going anywhere. |

Cue in to Edzo to give commentary to all those young players out there about continuing to drive to the net like Kotkaniemon on that first Habs goal. |

do we keep gaudette or kampf. my guess is gaudette. if we move strome we keep both. we also could look to trade for a team that is worried about losing a Forward. at this point it sure feels like stilman is who we lose. gives us more flexbility. |

I’d protect Gaudette, no doubt about it. I’d also try to trade Zadorov then protect Stillman. If there’s no takers for Zadorov I’d still protect Stillman. |

Per capfriendly Nylander, Kubalik, Suter, Kurashev, are exempt and the young dmen are exempt.
Am I correct on exempt and nonexempt.
Still hoping they protect Kane, Toews, Debrincat, Hagel, Borgstrum, Gaudette, (and Strome if he cannot be moved), Keith, Murphy, Stillman, (not Zadorov), Lankinen. Maybe they trade for a forward worth protecting. |

stillman is at best a 7th D. I would protect ZAD and hten after a few top 10 teams lose a good d in the draft I would trade ZAD for hopefully a solid return.

The Hawks are in no position to give up multiple assets shredding any organizational depth they have at this point. - Elbows15
and they get to protect yet another as ALEX NYLANDER is exempt!
Nylander to be considered a second year pro because he missed the entire year.
It allows the Hawks to protect Gaudette or Kampf...

The only way I would protect Strome is if I absolutely have to. I mean, technically I like him as a player, but it is pretty obvious that the team doesn't (and I can't find fault with that).
I mean the team doesn't need Strome as a winger, and if they are not going to use him as a centre - it doesn't really make any difference if he's protected or not -apart from wanting to move on from another player more.
Zadorov? Given his idea of his worth, then maybe another team would like a player that has that much self-confidence in their worth... given that it skews the entire payroll structure. |

Absolutely Dach has plenty of upside but he is not a shoot first centre whose expertise is number one goal scorer.
Not sure what his upside is.
And if you can get a BIG effective leader and goal scorer when you can but not sure if the middle of your own rebuild without many developing scorers you make that trade.
You trading Kubalik? a pick, a young defender our second third goalie? and Strome.
then yes.
The word is the Sabres want it done before the draft.
I just am not sure the offers are gonna gift them a full rebuild.
I am also not sure if all the other suitors have the desire to unload that much youth either.
Maybe the three Columbus first rounders are the best they get? |
