After the Leafs were eliminated this year, my cousin - who is a huge Leafs fan - posted on Facebook asking for people to make suggestions for NHL teams that his newborn son should follow because he wasn't going to subject his son to constant failure and heartache.

Not saying this is necessarily representative of Leafs fandom in general, but there is a LOT of angst across the board from fairweather fans to dyed in the wool fanboys/girls alike.

To me, the long-suffering-fan syndrome is my birthright but I wonder if the fanbase takes a bit of a dip or skips a generation at this point.

- mjones242

I hope thr fanbase does take a dip and i hope it impacts ticket sales. I doubt it will of course.

This generation's fans have really changed a lot.
- RogerRoeper

We’re probably close to the same age.

You’re happy with the last couple years I guess, just making it.

I understand.

if they Leafs gave Marner a bridge deal, lets say 3x9mil...he would be due for a new contract.

what # would he be getting now?

reading this makes my

the guy asked for a (frank)ing huge deal, got it...and poop the bed in the playoffs ever since.

what a joke

Why cause he has less points?
- bobbyisno1

In the regular season and playoffs, yes. that's why.

The bitterness I have about that is so they leaked so much crap to the media. No other team has to deal with that. The Darren Dreger crap was unbearable. I turn the station whenever he's on now.

Rather have him at 9.5 than Marner at 10.9, plus he's controllable.
What's Marner asking for next?

- bobbyisno1

Omg that's foolish
Hed get run out of town scoring 65 - 70pts a year making 9.5 a year.

Ya its great memories that are still talked about. Too bad that was one of the last times the leafs made it past the 2nd round.
Deep playoff runs are exciting, leafs fans in general just dont seem to understand that. Due to the teams incompetence for decades, leafs fans are relegated to whining about "well if you dont win the cup, you havent done anything blah blah blah".
Playoff runs are fun. The leafs are chokers and an embarrassment

- Fakepartofme

"Great memories" and being "satisfied" are two different things.

I remember being absolutely devastated to the point at which I refused to talk about those Conference Finals losses for years. I still haven't opened my "The Passion Returns" VHS tape that was given to me for birthday one of those years.

Playoff runs can be fun but they're also heartbreaking. Bragging about winning a couple of rounds is patently absurd. Like, I get it: enjoy the moment. But to hold a couple of minor playoff runs as some sort of yardstick of success? Ridic.

I don't believe that a player like Marner who is capable of being 4th overall in scoring, will never put up playoff numbers. Name another example.

Hossa went scoreless in his first 12 playoff games. Won three Cups, but not for Ottawa cause they traded him.

Marner doesn't. Oh and how many points would he have playing with Mathews for 24 minutes a night.

Marner got 69 points playing on the 3rd line and 16 minutes a night in his 2nd season.

Marner has been a better regular season and playoff performer, clearly

Did you watch him this year? he was like a deer in head lights.
Where did that come from, haven't seen that in previous years.
