Tkafacks is 7m only for one more year. Then its a minimum of 9....which is 1.9 less than mitch....not exactly a big difference.
- Fakepartofme

Just because that's his qualifying offer doesn't mean that's the minimum he extends for. That's not how it works.

I'm curious - what is the biggest hole on the Leafs side of the roster?

Its hard to believe that they won't be able to sign Morgan to a decent deal...Whos replacing him? An overpaid UFA?

He is a guy where I bet there is strong mutual interests from both sides to get it done.

Plus he is getting paid 5M this year

I like the D core and its a good core to bring Sandin and Lil into...if they both impress? Great we have a solid top 6 for a few years.

- Santo_44

Rielly had a lousy year IMO, the problem with Rielly is at age 27 is he ready to be better or has he regressed from the 72 points (20 goals) a couple of years ago? I would be happy if they can sign him to a team friendly deal. Leafs still need to sign a significant RHD. Liljegren at this point is a suspect not a prospect. Good talent, fine - do somenthing with it FFS. I'm on board for keeping Rielly at a good number and signing Olesiak but still does not address the lack of a top four RHD.

So out of curiosity, how is it that we've come to the conclusion that he's worse than Marner, just as invisible when it counts, more of a liability.... But he gets an extension in the Draisaitl - Rantanen range? Either he's poop or he's not. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Because I don't disagree with the pricetag, I think he's more in the 8-8.25 range...

And yes, I take him at that 9 million over Marner every day of the week. Because a player like Tkachuk plus 2 million in cap space is more valuable to me than the guy who's proven to be a no show and a cap hindrance.

I disagree he fit fantastic with Brodie. He also had a good playoffs which seems to be the dagger for if a player had a good or bad season in here....

I like the top 4 we have and Sandin seems primed to be an NHL regular this season and Lil has a chance as well.

I don't get why we touch the d...it was the best we have had in decades and Rielly and Brodie had nice chemistry.

They will add some forwards I think.

He had a not very good season and an average playoffs.

Yeah I thought he had a good season especially considering he was playing through an injury.

Later in the season and playoffs that proved to be true. And of course the team said it...so ya.

Morgan likely stays, don't see too many likely scenarios where he is not a Leaf next year.

He's had a lot less opportunity too. This is after you disregard the idea that 3 goals in his last 11 playoff games is actually quite an improvement on 0 for last 18.

Why are you taking out his 1st 4 playoff games ?

It’s 3 in 15.

Wow what an improvement!

I was hoping this place would have settled down a bit by now, but nope. Still wild. Some of these takes are awful.

Does not make sense to try and move Marner for equivalent salary coming back. The only way it works is for the Leafs is if they can create cap space to acquire a top 4 Dman and goaltender.

Still think the best play is to try and convince Melnyk on the merits of taking Marner even up for Connor Brown ($3.6m. cap). I believe you could get Melnyk to agree to the deal once the Leafs pay out the bonus Marner is due in July.

Because I decided recent performances were more of an indicator than what volume they both produced as essentially rookies.

But okay, let's look at the full picture then. We pay Marner a hair under 11 million per season for 5 playoff goals in 32 career games. Wow... That's so much better than 3 goals in 15. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Some astounding analysis there thanks for that.

How many years in a row is he playing through an injury before he's just not very good?

That logic wasn't valid with Andersen I don't see why it's valid here.
