But then you keep Kerfoot, Mik and Gally. There’s $6M in soft money without the skill.
- Canada Cup

The devil we know.

Kerfoot bothers some in here but not me. He works his ass off and can fill in up and down the line up in C or W. Lose Kerfoot and put Foligno there if he signs a team friendly deal.

His $ sucks but also thought Seattle might work that out for us and if so then I would worry about replacing him after.

Micheyev lost his touch, forever I don't know. Do you? He is great on the PK and his speed backs off the defense...he's useful and cheap and if he finds his scoring touch again, could be a 're-found wallet'. Galchenyuk is close to league minimum and I like what I've seen from him as he tries to turn his career around. Maybe he finds his 30g/season self. Maybe.

Finally, I don't think it's reasonable to dismantle the 'entire' team and expect immediate results.

I think adding 2 Dmen and a couple of strong wingers...losing as many old/weak players as possible... will go a VERY LONG way in 'tweaking' this roster for playoff success NEXT season.

While I enjoy your continual mental jizz fest in posting the negative side to my posts only, why don't you submit some suggestions of your own using that infinite wisdom and knowledge of everything.

I'm sure your suggestions will be exactly what the team needs.

Then we can just talk about how great your suggestions are and get excited about next season when Dubas does exactly that.

I agree in that adding 2 more defensemen like Oleksiak and Hamilton will definitely help us.. What I am not sold on though is if getting guys like Goodrow and Coleman is enough.
We need the big 4 to play a more physical style and until that happens consistently in the playoffs, I don't know how far they can, or will go.

I do think that if they decide to trade Marner, it would go a long way to addressing the team needs.

Well that only rings true depending on what they get for marner and who they then spend any extra cap space on.
Trading your leading points getter, can often backfire.
But I don't see marner being moved yet, i think dubie rides it out another year

Statistically speaking, Perry has been below replacement level.

His "influence" on the Habs young players is likely over-stated and is absolutely unquantifiable.

But who cares about that? I don't want to see the Leafs with Corey Perry, thanks!

All we need is those four, plus a good goalie

Maybe Casey Cizikas as well.

- PatC80

Cizikas is making 3.35M. I wonder if he'd take a paycut? Probably wouldn't want to leave his boys Cal and Matt in Long Island for cheap.

Cant blame him, on the isles he can see the 2nd round several times.

Still don't know who Bunting is, but I LIKE this line up. A lot.

D looks so nice if you play Muzz with Hamilton and Brodie with Oleksiak.....that top 4 is nice! Sandin with Bogo is a great way for Sandin to get comfortable and learn from a vet, so that's perfect for him.

Marner is my only concern...I know, weird, and it's only a playoffs concern....easier to find guys to do the job than make a guy "tougher" IMO.......so hopefully Coleman helps crash some guys around so he has his happy space.

NICE JOB, call Dubas!

I totally agree.

It just might be too bold a move for Dubas....and some posters here....but the $11m and weak playoffs for so long, I'm over it. Move him. IMHO.

He can do really well elsewhere and we can win a Cup or two.

As much as I would like to see Marner traded for Eichel, I don't think it's happening.. If they do decide to move him, I doubt Dubas would bring in a guy just like Marner..

I don't think we'll get a Marner for Gaudreau trade

I know Oleksiak paired with Heiskanen in Dallas. Bunting is a local Boy. Scarborough kid. So I'd think he'd want to sign with Toronto. The Gull says his gf works for the Leafs. He'll be 26 when next season starts. Bit of a late bloomer. He scored 10 goals in 21 games last season for the Coyotes. I think he'd do well on the 4th line with Brooks and Spezza.

Coleman and Goodrow might win another Cup. They know how to win in the playoffs. You'd think this might rub off on the BIG 4. Especially Little Mitchy. These guys can grind and score and if Foligno is healthy he can still bring some snarl and scoring.

From last blog:

Maroon, Goodrow, and Coleman are not generic terms. They mean something, especially to their moms (presumably).

Bogo was a breath of fresh air and filled the role of 3rd pair with grit admirably. And yet, the Leafs still managed to get pushed around in their own end by a tenacious and relentless - and dare I say "truculent" - Habs forecheck.

Simmonds = broken and and a failed flier project

Foligno = precisely the kind of player that Dubas avoided acquiring until the TDL. Got himself injured, was half the player he normal is, and with no other forward seemingly capable of filling his role.

But yes, that thing that I (frank)ing argued about all season long is what this team desperately needs and I'm going to (frank)ing call it "truculence" because it's fun and Burkian, but also because it's a perfect adjective.

Replace "truculent" with "tenacious, relentless forechecking", "heavier", or whatever if you will. The point is clear.

Per the defence corps, the Leafs need to decide now if it's Rielly or someone else. If it's someone else, Dougie Hamilton is the guy that makes the most sense and I'll scream that until the day he signs elsewhere (which probably won't stop me).

1. The forward group needs more tenacity/relentlessness/heaviness/truculence to compete.

2. The Leafs power play needs two legit scoring forwards and a d-man who is an actual threat with a point shot to be elite functional.

3. The goaltending remains a major question mark at this point. I like Campbell but can he handle the load? Who else can the Leafs acquire to be a legitimate 1b guy?

4. Trade (frank)ing Mitch Marner.

I wouldn't mind bringing in B.Saad as well somehow.

Think the Leafs need to go back to being a fast skilled team...A few years ago they would just overwhelm teams with their skill and speed.

D was absolute trash but they found ways to win by being fast as (frank).

Saad will be expensive though. He made 6 mil last season. I have a feeling Seattle will sign some UFA's this summer to reach the salary floor. Saad could be one of them.
