I don't consider them as cheaters but they've already won the cup last year so I just want to see them fail. - Pat1993

oh is it really 18M over the cap..? tabarnak - Pat1993
Well it's 18M if you count everything, including players who haven't played a game all year (Gaborik).

Weber is the guy they would "rest" for a full season, bring him back healthy for the playoffs and gain over 7M in cap space. - Symba007
oh 100%. and Habs will absolutely need to add a piece to that defence to get them through the regular season. a guy who can move the puck. there's work to do for this team to get back to the playoffs next year.

it's cool that it doesn't bother you at all, but I think a lot of people would like to see changes going forward, it's getting a bit exaggerated.

i think people are saying that they exploited a significant loophole, the way teams did with 15-year front-loaded deals, and that the loophole should be closed. - DoubleDown

Anybody close in their system? I don't think so. I think you are mainly hoping that Romanov will be better next season.
Could be a trade or somebody on the market. |

so they rest Weber for the season and bring him back for the playoffs, use his cap space to sign Hamilton, he plays the full season, replacing Weber and boom, come playoffs time you have this group
Weber (6'4)
Petry (6'3)
Hamilton (6'6)
Edm (6'4)
Chariot (6'3)
Romy (6') |

I'm no capologist, but why wouldn't there be some form of cap restriction for the playoffs as well, to avoid having huge discrepancies with the regular season? it isn't that complicated |

if Weber is having any type of surgery this offseason 100% he should sit out till well into 2022.

Your salary is paid strictly for regular season play therefore putting a salary cap on the playoff roster is antithetical to the whole idea |

how is it "antithetical" to eliminate the possibility for teams to exaggerate and take advantage of the situation? |

Seth Johnes is on the market.
Colorado might trade one of the young puck moving guys they have to add some size. So basically Girard for Edmunson is a done deal |

You need to do it another way or change how salary is paid. Every penny of a player's salary is paid strictly for regular season play. Playoffs is just bonus money (which if in a contract for things like winning titles or Conn's need to be included in salary cap either the season they are earned or carried over to the next year). As such you can't penalize a team in the playoffs for theoretically being over a cap that doesn't exist in the playoffs |
