Wasn't there a movie about this with Alec Baldwin and Glenn Close?

No clue. Probably just an entitled millennial.

I don't know anything about him, but his stats look pretty solid.

Yeah he’s not an elite prospect or anything but he has the trajectory and size to become an nhl starter.

Probably something the Pens could use in their system. Not sure how those two wasted draft picks are trending.

JR should have been fired for drafting those two goalies.

Yeah Sokolov would have been a nice add instead of Blomqvist. I hate goalies before the 4th unless it’s like an absolute stud mid late 1st like Vasy and even then you could end up with a Malcom Subban.

Agreed. Literally any of the picks other than Blomqvist would have been a better gamble.

@Boyd: To be quite honest I don't have much of a read on what Hextall and Burke want to do period. Yeah they've talked about long pants hockey, but ultimately it didn't really mean anything. Everyone would LOVE to have big tough players that are also skilled. Saying you want to upgrade in size and grit without sacrificing skill and speed doesn't tell you anything.

We really have no idea to what extent they will attempt to remake this team in their image if at all.

Yeah its weird to get a read because they're saying the long pants stuff like you've mentioned but I'm also hearing them say things along the lines of they think they team is really good now and good with a certain build.

They've also said that at the end of the day the Pens are a team built on speed and skill so while they're looking to bring in more size and truculence, they're not looking to change the franchise's identity.

In sum: We are doing the job of the GM/Pres of Hockey Ops and will continue to assess the situation and our assets. You'll know what we're doing when the trade calls/signings are made.

hahaha

What I bolded is basically what I meant....they're saying stuff like that but also the long pants stuff.

When I think of a player with skill, long pants and can push the pace a bit I think of Evander Kane...there's not a lot of players like that with that combo of attributes...and unfortunately he's a POS.

As Boyd has mentioned, the closest guy that's an obvious target is Brandon Saad. No one else that is definitely or should be available really comes to mind.

Regardless, I do think there will be some significant moves this offseason. Not major moves, as in moving out a core piece, but I think the supporting cast can and should see significant change. I say this because I think the team as currently constructed peaked this past year given all the players that overperformed and that we're capped out with a couple of critical holes in the roster. So basically at peak performance we should have made it out of a tight series against the Islanders in Round 1, but probably don't get much further.

I have no clue what these moves will possibly be, but I'm more excited to see what they are this off season than I was last offseason. Just feels like we have a bit more to play with this time around with lots of guys having really good seasons, exceptions really only being Zucker (who should still have value) and Jarry.

Stop it. Jarry was your goalie. He wasn’t good. Sorokin was unbelievable. If we would’ve had Nathan MacKinnon and Connor McDavid we would’ve swept you guys. You can speak in hypotheticals all day long but the fact is that was your team and your team wasn’t good enough so now you watch as we get our balls kicked in by the lightning just like everyone else has

Yeah, plus I think he'll come in cheaper than most of the other options. I'd throw term his way to make it happen.

With the stars being where they are in their careers I have no reservation using bad term to incentivize signings so long as we're confident their cap hits won't turn into an issue while Sid and Geno are still playing hockey.

I have a feeling Rutherford had a deal in place to bring back MAF that didn't get approval from ownership....so he turned in his resignation.

I'd like to snag Saad, 100% would for a few reasons, but I dont think his pants are as long as Kane's haha

I too am excited for this offseason.

I am so tired of Jarry being such a scapegoat for a bad defense. Did he make mistakes and have a bad playoff? Yes, absolutely. But I don't see St. Louis looking to get rid of Binnington after a bad playoff (0-4, 3.59 GAA, .889%). Jarry was not good, but let's quit giving guys like Letang and Dumo a pass just because of their name. The defense did nothing to help out the goalie. And guess what, Casey DeSmith would not have made any difference in this series either.
So who should they get? Grubauer? His numbers were a little better than Jarry, but not substantial. Since you love save% and GAA, how about we go get Craig Anderson since he had a .929 save % and 2.68 GAA against Boston. Boy that sounds like a great plan

It's a combo of things...

1) He checks off the Hextall boxes as far as his style of play, not so much his size.
2) He's a decent player, so obviously if we have to target that style of player, I'd rather get one who can produce.
3) He probably come closer to $3.5M-$4M vs. what $5Mish money players like Saad will get.

I know, this is where you tell me he sucks.

Same. I'd do a Tanev-esque contract to bring him in.

Was just curious really and I think the perception of him being one of the missing pieces for Tampa might drive his price up too high.

I think the flat cap is going to curb a lot of overpaying and I think teams will be more willing to go for term to make up for the money.

I think $4M is the ceiling on what teams would give him.
