Spending half the cap on 4 forwards has worked well for us so far, might as well continue to do so. - Steven_Seagull
People don't want to be bothered to factor in the impact of the cap on every roster decision that is made. Multiple teams are looking to move salary off the books. As difficult as it might be for the Leafs, Tampa, Winnipeg, Islanders and others are in worse shape.
This is the main reason that this is not a good time to try and move Marner. Marner is a great young player. Best to do nothing at this time. |

He is only owed 8.8M in his final 2 years.
DET has 45M in cap space.
DET will buy for cap space.
50% is only 2.2M a year for 2 years. Dubas bought 4,250,000M in cap space over 1 year a few years ago. 4.4M over 2 years is nothing.
For me the E Karlsonn trade is comparable. - Santo_44
After Yzerman re-signs his RFA's and a few UFA's it'll be more like $15 mil in cap space. |

50% of that is 5.25M - Santo_44
yeah, so the Hawks retain 50% of Kane's salary and we only have to give them Mikheyev and Engvall? |

Just keep seeing him repeat that Marner is 23. He's not. |

they're still pissy about (a) the offer sheet that cost them $28 million in one year and (b) jumping ship to sign with the Ducks. |

Agreed.
Move Nylander for some new PK’ers and a top 4D.
Also trade Campbell while is stock is high. |

I can see it happening;
Chiarelli to Chicago media: I made that trade because I really like the letter 'V' |

And 80 million in additional league cap space is being added this year with Seattle.
There are teams with a literal (frank) ton of cap space but little actual cash. Marner wouldn't be difficult to move after July 01.

No, I get it..
Yzerman will agree to retain 50% of Patrick Kane's cap, if we give Engvall and Mikheyev to Detroit |

I’d look at comparables for buying teams to take 4.4 M dollars |
