The cap isn’t going up this year.
- Canada Cup

I think he means there is 80M+ more cap dollars in the league this year.

I’d look at comparables for buying teams to take 4.4 M dollars
- Santo_44

Even if Yzerman was kind enough to do that, I have to think it would cost Amirov and/or a 1st rd pick

they're still pissy about (a) the offer sheet that cost them $28 million in one year and (b) jumping ship to sign with the Ducks.
- BINGO!

Plus Mike Ilitch made a personal offer to Fedorov in 2003. 5 years 50 mil. Fedorov said he had to think about it. It was all over after that. Holland's offers became lower and lower. He signed with the Ducks. Red Wings signed Derian Hatcher who blew his knee out after playing 4 games. Ilitch wrote a check for 10 mil to Buy him out so the Red Wings could be cap compliant after the lockout. 83 mil payroll to 38. They also bought out McCarty and Ray Whitney.

I don't care about any of that. Sergei Fedorov is one of the greatest Red Wing players of all time and he deserves to have his #91 retired. Plus I loved looking at Anna Kournikova at Red Wings home games.

No, I get it..

Yzerman will agree to retain 50% of Patrick Kane's cap, if we give Engvall and Mikheyev to Detroit

- PatC80

No he won't. Yzerman got a 4th for taking peanuts on David Savard's cap hit to help Tampa out. He got a 2nd from the Rangers for taking Marc Staal's rotting hockey carcass for a season.

No.

Look at comparables for cost of getting teams to pay 4.4M

Marleau was a 1st for 4.25M

Backes and Kase was a 1st for 4M

So no. Not a 1st and Amirov. Not even close.

And 80 million in additional league cap space is being added this year with Seattle.

There are teams with a literal (frank) ton of cap space but little actual cash. Marner wouldn't be difficult to move after July 01.

- Leafs43

Seattle might be a great partner in a three way deal. They might even take Marner directly in order to offer fans some star power. We don't know what they might be able to offer the Leafs.

Still have not seen any proposal for trading Marner that makes the Leafs a better playoff team. Marner for Seth Jones, might look good on paper. But, it only makes next summer more problematic.

I haven’t seen AA in here in months.

How do you let someone like that get under your skin so effortlessly?

If DET sinks into the ocean, a whole lot of other cities would also go into the ocean. Just basic geography.

You think the Leafs would just not protect Marner?

I think it's safe to say that any off-season deal for Seth Jones would be of the trade-and-sign variety.

So you saw off Marner for Jones. Probably in similar salary ranges and Jones is 4 years older. Have the Leafs gained anything?

Still say best option is to keep Marner and wait out the 4 years until cap is expected to begin increasing again.
