So you saw off Marner for Jones. Probably in similar salary ranges and Jones is 4 years older. Have the Leafs gained anything?
Still say best option is to keep Marner and wait out the 4 years until cap is expected to begin increasing again. - spatso
Hey Flip-Flopper! I thought you were trading Marner for Connor Brown?

No I don't think it makes sense to trade Marner. My trade proposals merely illustrate how difficult it is to find something that is better than what the Leafs already have. Still have not seen anything that works on the ice and in the front office. |

Or he just wants to hit the market - Canada Cup
I think my point was that if he wants to hit the market I'm thinking teams may be less willing to trade for him. |

I understand why some (most?) Leaf fans want Marner traded. I'd rather have 2 very good players for his 11 mil cap hit. But I don't think Toronto will trade Marner or Willie as long as Dubas is GM. I wouldn't be spending $55 mil on 7 players. But Dubas seems too stubborn to change course. These pie in the sky Marner trade scenarios are fun. But I just don't see him being traded with Dubas as GM. Dubas is literally married to his core 4. It'll lead to his firing in my opinion. |

That is a great plan. Wait until all of them are UFA to make changes to the core.

I think Marner is an unbelievably attractive trade asset after July 1st. I think you explore every possible avenue to see what the market is for him.
Jones is not an option unless he signs an immediate extension. It doesn't look like he's interested in doing that so you probably look for a different dance partner.
I'm trying to understand how Mitch Marner, earning 10.9M on a team that has 29M locked up in 3 other forwards, who hasn't scored in 18 straight playoff games, is untouchable at this point.
I don't pretend to know what the return would be or what makes the most sense. I just feel like it would be absurd to run this core back again for another season and expect different results (Snakevares' freak playoff injury notwithstanding). |

The absolute stupidity of Leafs fans making Marner trade proposals because he “makes too much money” like he did something wrong, but nothing about sacking the lousy, incompetent, under qualified GM who gave him that contract.
Also the smug goof who just walked into the head office and hired the “phenom protege” who’s biggest accomplishment to date was being the offspring of someone who’s parents own an OHL team, is exactly why the Leafs are, and likely always will be the joke of the league.

*dons tinfoil hat*
I wonder how much pressure Shanahan has been getting - if any - from the ownership group. That could get things moving quite quickly.
I'd like to think MLSE is not in that dark place again where non-hockey types are interfering or flexing their muscles, but there is a LOT of money to be made with respect to Leafs going deep.
*throws tinfoil hat in garbage*
So how about England today, lads? |

I thought Shanny was facing pressure after losing to Columbus. But maybe the Tavares injury buys him another year? I think the Leafs adding "grit" was Shanny telling Kyle he had to do it or else pack your bags. So what happens now? Does Kyle swing for the fences? Or does he continue reshufflling deck chairs on the Titanic? |

Friedman and CJ keep saying this...But also both say the core 4 is staying.
To me I feel as if Dubas is aggressively trying to add a good player with retained cap. |

I see Kyle adding to his expensive group of shiny toys. But not give any of them up. He really does believe in Jimmy Tanner's studs and duds approach. It only works if your studs are earning their contracts. Like Tampa. |

I like Dubas. I agree with how the team is built so we won't see eye to eye there. I don't agree with deviating from a plan so early...recipe for disaster. Novelty doesn't always mean better especially when you search for it in a position of weakness.
He is creative and proactive. I see him adding a player and paying someone else to retain the cap.

Santo, you’re that kid in school who everyone actually doesn’t like, who tries to fit in by elevating yourself above someone else.
It’s awkward and pathetic. |

It wasn’t meant to be “awesome,” and you shouldn’t thank AA, or myself.
It’s just really awkward watching you try to fit in. |
