When did we start taking Max seriously?

A centre is always more valuable than a winger

- PatC80

When it's politically expedient, of course.

My 2nd post of that day was about 14 pages after my first post.
I nailed it as well.

Nylander is a bargain
- Santo_44

Nah, hes paid what a 60 - 65 pt player should be.
90 plus players get paid.
It is what it is.

Instead now he got traded for Connor Brown.

- Garnie

Yes I would do that deal as long as Marner has his bonus paid out first.

Marner just needed to take 9.5 (6-8 years) and nobody says a word about him..its viewed as a hometown discount and we all love him forever.
- senstroll

All Lou had to do was give him is bonuses. It wasn't even his money. MLSE would have given him the thumbs up. Marner wouldn't have driven such a hard bargain and we would have loved him forever.

It's not Marner for Connor Brown, it's Marner for Apple Strudle, Connor Brown + a pick.

Take it or leave it.

IF they pay the bonus, Melnyk will think about it
- senstroll

Melnyk is greedy. He will do it for the money.

seeing dermot, lil and Sandin penciled in the lineup back then and not even being fulltime now,,is wild to see
- senstroll

Kind of shows you what will happen to Robertson and Amirov...But fans always get too excited about prospects

Unless he gets 8mil...what is a "big raise?" He's a 6-6.5mil defender and should get that. He's been underpaid for a large portion of his deal.
- AdamFrench

Effen, LL, the Leafs are gonna pay for that one too.

Like how some think Robertson will be in the top-6 next year.

This sounds a lot like the narrative on Leafs can’t move Kaberle all over again.

Move Reilly yup. Can move Dermott and or Holl too.

Fact is Dubas has options. Get Hamilton, top four of Brodie-Hamilton Muzzin-Sandin is not at all bad. You add say Bogo and Tinordi cheap for bottom pair minutes and add Lilybust in. Is it worse? Nope.

I still think you need to move one of Marner/Nylander but…

Reilly is moveable and likely should be at this point to better the team.

Not a chance. Stutzle is making entry level money. Melnyk loves the value.

Connor Brown and maybe a second. Even this is a hard sell to get Melnyk on side.

Top 6? Nah. 4th line eased in with Nrooks and Spezza? Could see that though.

Just go ahead and google 'auston Matthews draft reports' and click on literally any of the articles that come up. It will take you about 10-15 seconds to realize you have no idea what you're talking about whatsoever.

A.) even with the bonuses, you don't know that Marners stance would have been different, you assume it would have been. When in reality, his actions were based around the idea that being stinking rich isn't as good as being filthy rich... Both of which are more important than the team.

B.) blaming Lou for Marners greed and Dubas' catering it is ridiculous. Lou did his job and set a precedent, Marner wasn't 'owed' poop, he hadn't played an NHL game.

C.) you can blame whoever you want, it doesn't change the idea that Marners position was 100% me first.

The future changed, the plans also have to change. Trade Marner.
- Steven_Seagull

I agree with the sentiment, but way easier said than done. Tell me what trade scenario is possible in which Leafs win a trade involving Marner at this moment?

Its literally how players of his caliber got paid. It was 100% what he earned on the market.

I really like Marner and the Leafs will regret making him the scapegoat and giving him up just as he is about to enter his prime. Leafs will not find a lot of demand as so many teams are also struggling with the cap. But there are a few teams ready to deal for Marner and not insist on sending equal salary back.

Hard sell? It would be Chabot + or go (frank) yourself.

20-25 teams in the league would move pieces to make room for Marner.

Perhaps you don't understand the term "take it or leave it".

You can leave it, that's fine just like any sane person would leave your silly "Marner for Connor Brown" offer.

It's ok, the Leafs will wait and just sign the Toaster Strudle kid once he is out of his entry level deal and wants to get paid. By then we will have traded away enough that we can afford him plus he will take less to come play in the centre of the hockey universe than be cursed playing in Kanata.
