This draft isn’t that great imo. So the 9oa traded for whom? I would want young & cheap vs taking on any sizeable contract.
Then again I’m quite ok keeping the pick.
So many other dominos to fall this offseason & the next. JB’s 1st serious move gives me more info to proceed. - Nighthawk
Early but this draft probably better than last years. Tie with 2019 better than 2018. |

No to Hamilton. No to OEL. We have Hughes. - LordHumungous
He enjoy 1st PP time too much in Carolina. Won't be going back.
Edmonton will probably make a run at him. Big upgrade over Barrie and Larsson. |

Maybe. I'm hearing Barrie might stay in EDM and is Larsson still under contract there?
I'm sure Holland has a 'plan' lol |

Larsson is not.
Hamilton is a huge upgrade over Barrie. |

Benning - We are not taking anything off the board. We will listen to everything. We have had some teams call about 9th overall to see what it would take to trade it. We want a good young player back who is playing in the league right now.
Benning - Our defense moving forward... we're looking for size and strength. Right now with Hughes, Schmidt, and Rathbone, we have enough guys that skate well and move the puck out.
Benning - I'd like to add scoring depth to our forward group and depth at the AHL level. Guys who can step into the lineup when we have injuries.
Benning - When I talked with Alex Edler at the end of the year, he said he wants to come back for another season. We are going to talk with his agent today. In a flat cap world, we will have to look at what it will take to get him signed.
Benning - Travis liked JT in the middle last year, but he also knows it's a pretty good line with him Petey and Boes. We have options. My goal this summer is to have three good lines that contribute to the scoring of the team.
Benning - I look at this draft as an opportunity (rather than a risk). We have been scouting most of these kids since they were 16. I think we are prepared for this year's draft. Our scouts worked really hard.
Benning - Weisbrod helps me with pretty much everything. Managing scouts, running meetings, helping out with the pro group, staying on top of the day-to-day. He is a real big help to me and he does a great job.
Benning - Whether it's trades or buyouts we will do what is needed to make the changes necessary. |

Sounds like Reinhart is coming to Vancouver. Not a bad addition at all. Benning thinks you guys are close, no need for picks. |

A month away from the draft now. A look at what Van might be picking according to some other people's rankings.
Mckeen's - Chaz Lucius at 9oa. - I don't like this player at this spot.
Matt Zator hockey writers - Kent Johnson - would be good pick
Scott Wheeler Athletic - Cole Sillinger - works for 9oa
Sportsnet Sam - Mason McTavish - a little high for 9oa but wouldn't haaatte it.
Ryan Kennedy SI - Mason McTavish - look above.
Button TSN - Jesper Wallstadt - if it happened wouldn't complain, no praise either.
ISS - Matthew Beniers - very okay with that selection
Smaht scouting - Fyodor Svechkov - I would hope Van traded down out of 9 to get him
Tyson Quibell Philly blogger - Jesper Wallstadt
Mynhldraft - Kent Johnson
Draft analyst - Mason McTavish
Josh Bell sporting news - Kent Johnson
9oa on Manvanfan rankings - Simon Edvinsson - Would forever be happy and disappointed at the same time with this pick. - manvanfan
Pronman put out a mock draft this morning (so different from his rankings, I guess), and had this:
9. Vancouver Canucks: Kent Johnson, C, Michigan-Big Ten
There is an industry consensus top-nine skaters in this draft and it’s presumed Vancouver will take whichever of the nine are left at their pick. In this mock scenario, it would be the Michigan forward Johnson.
and (for others who haven't read it) from his rankings, this is what he said about him:
6 Kent Johnson, C, Michigan-Big Ten
Oct. 18, 2002 | 6-foot-1 | 167 pounds
Skating: Below-average
Puck Skills: Elite
Hockey Sense: Average
Compete: Average
Johnson is the player you want to know about in this year’s draft in terms of dynamic skill and playmaking ability. A lot of his puck touches look unique from other players on the ice, with the ability to make between-the-legs and behind-the-back plays look routine. He’s a very creative playmaker who can make difficult plays in small areas consistently but can overcomplicate at times. Johnson has a decent wrist shot, which he showed more in junior than college. His game can lack pace and he’s not that hard to play against, but I wouldn’t call him soft either. In a sentence, Johnson projects as a top-line NHL forward, likely on the wing, who has the most star potential in the draft but also has the most significant physical drawbacks of the top prospects. |

So confirming this morning it is not Rick Tocchet as #SeaKraken head coach. All we know right now is the 10AM newser is not for a jersey/sweater/mascot unveiling. HC will be announced. Ron Francis is real, real good at keeping things under wraps.
Claude Julien? David Quinn? |

The attribute that is most easily overcome of anything. Not really different than Petey, as Scouts said if he was 20 lbs heavier he would have been consensus #1.
Doesn't sound much different than Johnson here. |

Can’t blame him, Lefty’s probably better at pivoting from forward to backward skating.
Flames got Kylington that gets no respect, elite skater that needs a chance. He’ll look good in Seattle. |

Agreed with that. Petey gets pushed around a bit, but has been able to hold his own for the most part. I'm sure in 5 years these guys weights won't be an issue |

JB needs to draft in the first round this year after not drafting in the first round last year. Same goes for the 2nd round. - manvanfan
Oh I’m not advocating for trading the pick. Need more prospect ELC depth. Just playing with ideas. As for Greenway idk if I give a 1st but also doubt Minny wants less. Other assets could be used but imo we don't have them nor in a position to trade much. |

My readings say the same. Just not gaga about this draft unless a surprise falls to us. Pretty much want a C & don’t see RHD worth the pick unless Clarke. That would be lucky. BPA wise I’m cool with but would consider a trade down if JB sees a group to pick from. Someone like Sillinger later be my idea. |

I’m ignoring comparisons since we had no 1st or 2nd pick. I don’t want more LHD we have enough for now. I see a pick more for need for both depth & size.
Projecting Johnson to fall to us & has nice skills but his 2-way game is lazy. Not a fan if that given we need more tenacity & puck hounds to go with skill. |
