Benning - We are not taking anything off the board. We will listen to everything. We have had some teams call about 9th overall to see what it would take to trade it. We want a good young player back who is playing in the league right now.
Benning - Our defense moving forward... we're looking for size and strength. Right now with Hughes, Schmidt, and Rathbone, we have enough guys that skate well and move the puck out.
Benning - I'd like to add scoring depth to our forward group and depth at the AHL level. Guys who can step into the lineup when we have injuries.
Benning - When I talked with Alex Edler at the end of the year, he said he wants to come back for another season. We are going to talk with his agent today. In a flat cap world, we will have to look at what it will take to get him signed.
Benning - Travis liked JT in the middle last year, but he also knows it's a pretty good line with him Petey and Boes. We have options. My goal this summer is to have three good lines that contribute to the scoring of the team.
Benning - I look at this draft as an opportunity (rather than a risk). We have been scouting most of these kids since they were 16. I think we are prepared for this year's draft. Our scouts worked really hard.
Benning - Weisbrod helps me with pretty much everything. Managing scouts, running meetings, helping out with the pro group, staying on top of the day-to-day. He is a real big help to me and he does a great job.
Benning - Whether it's trades or buyouts we will do what is needed to make the changes necessary. - VANTEL
Thx for this 👍
No fan of JTM at C but if that’s the case then it’s for 3 lines deep & ok with that given we have enough wingers &/or attain another. It allows BPA at 9th but still want a mid 6 C unless a legit top 6 winger falls. Problem I see is nobody of size & grit will be there. Pod fills need where we sorely lack. Speed is always a want. Puck possession & retrieval is a big need.

Wait and see final roster. Right now it is just guessing.
D sounds like it is keeping Schmidt . Hughes and Rathbone seem to be staying, Edler depending what he is asking and then size and strength .
I don't know why this happens, but years ago, when I officiated, I considered a save as possesion, so whistle blew on delayed penalty, assist for goalie if he was 3rd person to play they puck and no assists on rebound goals.😁 - Reubenkincade
I think that in the case of a delayed penalty they think of it as “control” of the puck, but I’m with you. Why does it count as your goal of the puck hits you in the ass, but it’s the shooters goal of it hits the D man in the ass (beyond the obvious)?
There would just be too many variables to determine who scored and who assisted, so the “it touched him” rule is applied.

good interview. very reasonable responses.
a couple things jumped out; 1) he name checked rathbone over oj (surprising/not surprising); and 2) weisbrod involved in everything makes me cringe.

plus those chintzy apples give the bench lots of ammunition to talk trash to the teammate who gets the assist.

I don’t enough about Weisbrod tbh. I only speculate & decide he must be a sounding board & a 2nd opinion. No problem with that if JB gets it right. Now saying that I don’t know what goes on in the inner circle. Therefore the Sedins may be good at being more voices & further help JB on decisions & direction.
On OJ I like him & his injuries set him back but he could be a chip to fill need also.

I’m ignoring comparisons since we had no 1st or 2nd pick. I don’t want more LHD we have enough for now. I see a pick more for need for both depth & size.
Projecting Johnson to fall to us & has nice skills but his 2-way game is lazy. Not a fan if that given we need more tenacity & puck hounds to go with skill. - Nighthawk
That's petty much saying you would rather draft Tyler Motte over Brayden Point

He also did not mention Myers.
Weisbrod makes everyone feel dirty. - VANTEL
i wishfully think that it has meaning but in the context of your quote i don't think it does. jb says they are looking for size and strength because they have guys that can skate the puck out naming the 3 mentioned.
i would put myers in the size and strength box but oj in the other (though i'm happy to have my opinion changed.)

Not even close lol
I prefer hard working good skaters. Aka work ethic & inclined to be warriors. I lije Johnson but he’s light & if he has the character to work on his game then take him.

The thing most here have noticed for years under this management is how players drop off when they arrive and how they excel when they leave. You have to question why?
So many games no hitting , no battling in front, first few minutes of games the teams not ready.
I seen now many people giving Brad Shaw high praise so hopefully he is brought in to fix those specific things. Maybe a guy like Myers playing a more defensive game with the right coaching and decisions will turn his game around.
At least they are aware of what needs to be done , next step is to fix things.
