Buying out LE is next level incompetence. It saves 950k against the cap this year only since AHL saves 1.05m. - Retinalz
That's wrong in bold.
I don't know why you would keep him for 1 more year. Is he going to provide leadership on the bus? |

Silvos looks good and we can get an AHL callup I'm free agency. I'm ok with trading MDP. - Retinalz
I can only imagine having to play Silovs in the NHL on emergency just like MD had to do it a couple years ago. That went well. |

How is it wrong?
Buyout saves 2m and costs us next season. Sending him down saves 1.05m, a difference of 950k. |

Silvos is 4th goalie next season. Trading MDP and signing a new 3rd goalie leaves Silvos as #4. |

The Barracuda also dipped into the free-agent market, signing a pair of WHL players. The bigger fish of the two is former Portland Winterhawks captain Nick Cicek. Cicek, a Winnipeg-born, 201-pound defenseman Their other signing, Montana Onyebuchi from the Kamloops Blazers, carries a somewhat similar development pattern. Similar in size (6′ 3″, 209 pounds) to Cicek, Onyebuchi also had an offensive breakout campaign with 12 points in 20 games. The Barracuda hope that the two overagers can boost their defense in the coming years.

One of the defenders you wanted to draft years back getting a shot in the AHL. - manvanfan
Thats good for Montana, not so good for the Canucks organization.
Oh well. |

A first round pick has been the going rate to dump one year of a bad contract. A maybe goalie wouldn’t get that done. - 1970vintage

Hypothetically you sign an AHL starter. Would this AHL starter someone you want to possibly play NHL games next season if need be? Does that help the Canucks at all?
What about the season after what happens. You don't have Holtby as a back up anymore if he isn't taken in the e-draft. Too which you then are going to need an NHL back up goalie plus another AHL goalie this season. Which again you're going to need another two goalies the season after because I highly doubt Silovs is ready.
Goalies don't exactly grow on trees like the Sea of Granlunds. |

Nah wash out your mouth with soap. Trade downs are taboo in here for those with no imagination lol - Nighthawk
I am okay with a trade down this year, if the 3 defenseman, Power Edvinsson Clarke and centreman McTavish are off the board.
Cole Sillinger would be a nice addition to the prospect pool. |

Clarke falling to 9 would be amazing, assuming he's on Benning's list of 9 |

you're right that the needs are there but trading MDP right now is a bad idea. why? firstly, he is just a goalie prospect meaning that his value isn't that great on the trade front.
the better play would be to allow him to develop next year in the AHL and have him ready in case of injury. the following year he establishes himself as the backup. if and when he does that AND demko is still riding high, you move him. and it's not out of the question that for whatever reason (doesn't have to be injury) that he supplants holtby next year. - RealityChecker

Ok. I thought you were referring to Kotkaniemi, who is also referred to as KK.
