There is an advantage to finishing first in the regular season in home ice advantage but otherwise it's a tune up, nothing more. Playoff hockey is all that matters - Takemedrunkimhome

How did you lose if you actually won the trophy?
Lol. You're talking the loser mantra.
Two completely different things. Regular season and playoff tournament. - MisterBrown
That is correct. What you're missing is that only one of them matters, playoffs. There's a reason why people remember who won the Cup in each year, the teams and players. Nobody is sitting around talking about how great the President's Trophy winning 90-91 Blackhawks were but they sure as poop remember Mario, Jagr, Stevens, Coffee, Recchi, Trottier and Francis, amongst others. |

I think the NHL would do well to promote both the regular season champion and the tournament champion.
They have different refereeing, game formats and challenges that are played with different styles.
Both winners have made noteworthy accomplishments. - MisterBrown

Even the division champ banner is at least acceptable as technically you are.
I've never in my life seen anyone else hang a conference championship banner though. That's just dumb.
Of course it's also the only one David Poile has won in 37 years as a GM so I guess he'll take what he can get.

Most teams will have something but nashville is the only one who have a pre-game ceremony for it. the hawks just add the year to a banner that is already hanging. |
