Point > Eichel as of today.

Eichel on a good team changes that as I don’t think RAPM is anywhere near perfect as accounting for teammates in their model

- sbroads24

1) McDavid
2) Mackinnon
3)Crosby
4) Point
5)Matthews/Eichel/Draisatil

That’s how I rank it. Slight edge to Point over Eichel.

The lightning are as good as they are because of Point.

Eichel will always be the better point producer but Point’s overall game, his clutch ability, and his overall availability gives him the edge in my eyes.

Eichel’s defensive numbers are inflated due to the fact he played 21 games in 2021 in a system that made offence non-existent.

Jesus Christ even Skinner had awesome defensive numbers this year but I bet you won’t post that RAPM.

So we have a player in Point that drives offence at a higher rate and has just as good expected goals against that plays in a much higher up tempo system.

Is Kucherov a legend ? Absolutely.

Would Eichel put up better offensive numbers in Tampa ? Absolutely.

Brayden Point is the heart of a Tampa team that is one goal away from another Stanley Cup final.

21 games in a 3 year sample? Come on, man.

Yeah, I’m sure Point has absolutely nothing to do with why they are the best team
In hockey

I mean he’s only on like a 70 goal pace the last two post seasons

Brayden Point plays the most important position on the ice on that All Star Team and has been absolutely money for the Lightning.

Take Point off the Lightning and they don’t win a cup last year and Florida beats them in round 1 this year.

Hes amazing.

If I’m drafting a team from scratch I’m probably taking Point as of today over Eichel, not even considering contract

Points per game the last 3 years

Eichel: 1.07
Point: 1.01

Jack on the worst team in hockey, Point on the team that outscored the Sabres by 192 goals in the last 3 years. 192 goals.

TOI last three years

Eichel 21:30 per game

Point 18:46 per game

That’s a large difference

The last two years is where Point has become elite

9 game playoff goal streak which is second all time.

Back to back postseasons of 12 + goals which has only been done by two other players ever (Gretzky and Lemieux)

Was deserving of the Conn Smythe last year and would be deserving of it this year if the situation permits.

I don’t see Auston Matthews putting the Leafs on his back like Point is doing with Tampa.

He’s an incredible player…. Who the Sabres could’ve drafted like 3-4 times in 2014.

Whatever

What does the other 3 Tampa forward lines and-corps out scoring the other 3 Sabres forward lines and d-corps at even strength while Point and Eichel are on the bench have anything to do with this ?

Brayden Point’s most common line mates this year were Palat and Cirelli. Stamkos played on the top line for 13 games. Barrie Boulet played on that line for 13 games as well.

Point finished with 48 points in 56 games.

Cirelli, although fantastic defensively, is not very much of an offensive producer and I’d take Reinhart and Hall over Palat.

Point is elite. No other way to put it.

No Kucherov all year and Hedman had a good year but not one you would expect from him (supposed injury involved) and the Lightning won 36 games this year.

I have been one of the biggest Eichel homers over the years but I still give the slight edge to Point.

Sorry to disagree with the majority here

Because all the opposing teams have to do is focus on Eichel. They can't take any shifts off against Tampa.

Some good candidates for next season
Ullmark Driedger combo wouldn't be bad, Vanecek and Mrazek are intriguing even though you would have to trade for Vanecek.

Leon is far better than Eichel, and it’s not even close. He’s up there with mcD and mcK.

I would take Mathews 10/10 times over Eichel too. But Jack is prob right in the tier behind those guys if he could actually stay healthy

I wonder what a return like the above would do as far as the Sabres plan for next season and beyond, if they even have one.
