Bobby made a good point in the last thread...
Matthews and Tkachuk are really good buddies. He wants out of Calgary and some NHL guy said Tkachuk for Tarasenko...since Tkachuk is from St. Louis
Is Marner for Tkachuk a better deal for Calgary?
Matthews could probably convince him to come play in Toronto, they would be awesome together. AWESOME.
(PS, I will keep posting this every thread so the thought goes out into the aether!!! Manifest b1tches!!!) |

The only issue would be Tkachuk's qualifying offer. I believe it will be 9.9 based on the last year of his contract, I guess he's going to be 10+ on a long term deal. Unless there's some maneuvering the Leafs could do? At that number I'd rather have Marner. I think... |

$10.9M out with Marner. Does he make the roster better for close to the same money....IMO, a resounding YES!
Then, Dubas is back to worrying about the same sh1t, just now he has a team that has a stronger top line for the playoffs....then maybe we see a round 2 |

I really doubt the only player to have a good playoff performance with the best cap hit is on the way out.
Leafs only problem in balancing out the roster is Cap. You don't get rid of the best valued player to do that. |

As far as I know the qualifying offer needs to be +10% of the last year of the contract, but I could be wrong. Even if they're starting at 9, I'd think he would want a raise to 10 minimum, much like Point. Who knows how it will all play out with the pandemic etc but I think I like marner at 10.9 more than Tkachuk at 10. |

his last year pay on the contract which is 9 mil + 10% increase on a 1 year deal.
there is nothing to prevent them to come to an agreement on a 9 mil cap hit over x amount years. |

I think a qualifying offer is 100% of the players base salary and Tkachuks was 3.5 mill
Correction his base salary is 9 mill so they have to qualify at 9 mill? |

The Flames don't have to pay him $9M. They can agree to terms with him on a new contract (for any amount that he agrees to) prior to the Qualifying period in the 2022 off-season. If they haven't agreed to terms prior to the qualifying period in the 2022 off-season, they can qualify him, but unless Tkachuk accepts the 1 years $9M offer, they are still free to negotiate and agree to any contract terms.
