I hope you're right. I agree that so far in limited games that York looks really good. If he adopts Provy's training regimen, his limit is the sky. Provy is a machine because of his workout and health regimen so he can eat minutes like most others can't. They could be a deadly pairing fairly soon. And I'd agree that perhaps its a toss up between York and Caufield. But damn!!! Watching these playoffs makes me think of what could have been with the Flyers.

Provy might want to adopt York workouts. Have you seen York? Dude is absolutely ripped.

Could York be a clutch guy with speed and skill? This issue with Caufield is bizarre in my opinion.
- MJL

I don't think it's bizarre at all. The kid is a gamer. And the Flyers so far don't really have any gamers. Guys that rise to the occasion. Maybe they will, but right now looking at it, a certainty of what we are watching is perhaps a shade better than what MIGHT happen.

It's all ridiculously premature. It's a stretch to call it a certainty. Many players have had a good playoff run only to fade. Who knows. If York doesn't turn into a good player and Caufield does, then there is a point. Right now, it's extremely bizarre.

Again, could York be a clutch guy with speed and skill?

It's insane just how much better a start these new expansion clubs get now.

I was in college near Columbus when they came into the league... and it was the Shampoo Knutsen and Ron Tugnutt show for a bit there. Despite the handicap, they amazingly won some games.

What is this about some wanting DeAngelo? Wasn’t he harassing a young rookie, possibly because he’s black?

That's essentially telling the player you don't believe in him. Its also really bad player management. The only reason why you would do that with Sanheim is if negotiations are going badly and you can't find any common ground. Seriously comparing the situation with Sanheim to Patrick?
- MJL

If I were Fletcher I would not believe in Sanheim. What has he done in 4 season to demonstrate he is a top 4 defenseman in this league? He, like most of the team, took a few steps back last season, and in previous seasons he was OK but nothing spectacular. So why should I pay Sanheim above what players that are even better than him right now are getting paid? He has not earned a raise IMO and thus I would sign him to a prove it deal, that is the only similarity I meant to equate with Patrick. Sanheim clearly is a better player than Patrick right now, and his current salary demonstrates that already I believe.

It's a shame you didn't pay attention to the math and the science when you said the Habs have as good a chance as anyone.

Sanheim has entered the league and worked his way up to play as a top 4 NHL defenseman. It's not reality to sign him to a proven deal. It's also not reality to look at one year and ignore the rest when evaluating a player. What players are you comparing him to salary wise? Information has been provided by others for looking at comparable's for Sanheim's next deal. A one year "prove it" deal is just not good business. I think this comes from an over all outlook on the Flyers young players and an overreaction to last season.

Right, recall our argument with PT21 about making the final 4 and having a "chance" to win. Montreal just proved our position, i.e. once you get into the final 4 a hot goalie, a lucky bounce, team confidence, etc. all can propel one team forward, even against odds. This is why odds are nothing more than prediction, and with a small sample size anything can happen. Vegas had the highest odds to win the cup I believe, and now they are gone! I think Sanhiem is paid appropriately based on his level of play and the flat cap. Maybe instead of a prove it deal, you sign him to a 2 year bridge deal, but I would not give him a raise this point.

Plenty of small guys in the NHL have been dynamic offensively.

he is 5'7. If he has a great carreer it is an anomaly. I wouldnt say plenty of small guys have been dynamic. Id say Fleury and now maybe Caufield.

Here is what he'll argue. What were the odds and the chances of Montreal making it to the Finals. He'll state that if the chances and odds are against a team that doesn't mean they won't defy those odds. What he didn't realize or take into consideration that when that statement was made, it was just a conversation in a casual sports settings. Nobody cares about statistical math calculations. It's goes against what fandom is. It's sports. Sports idioms are formed for a reason.

A bridge deal is a contract signed with a player coming off of his EL deal up to free agency eligibility. It is a bridge between those two points. Sanhiem is coming off of his bridge deal. He'll get a raise. His next contract will likely extend into his free agent years.

I could see him possibly signing a one year deal, but not because it is a “prove it deal.” More likely at a slight raise and because Sanheim bets on himself. If for instance, the two sides can’t agree on term at the right price. Let’s say the Flyers want 3-5 years and Sanheim wants 2, I could see the 1 year deal happening then as a compromise then he is RFA again next season.
