First, I think it would be foolish for the Leafs to trade Marner and I don't believe they will.
Second, I think the Connor Brown offer is very clever. It assumes that Brown who scored more goals than Marner can play effectively with Matthews. Second it assumes a cap saving of $7m for the Leafs.
And, third and most important, it includes a high second round pick (or maybe a 1st at #10) that would allow the Leafs to acquire the negotiation rights to sign Dougie Hamilton without having to let go of another Dman. - spatso
You will have to forgive us
Many on here feel that if you give away the best player in the trade, there is no way we can possibly win the trade 🙄 |

Cole Caufield is the player we hoped Matthews would be in the playoffs. - Fakepartofme
God damn he's amazing.
Been a while since we've had a guy with that much talent in the lineup.

From the beginning I have said I do not think the Leafs should trade Marner. But, if they do, they cannot win the trade by getting the best player. They have to do something that makes them a better team and, I think we can all agree that means either defence or goaltending. Guys who might be available (eg., Doughty) just don't make any sense to me because of age and cap hit. The best options are Hamilton (which will require draft picks) for a sign and trade. Or, Jones, which I think is possible in a straight up deal of Marner for Jones.
But, make no mistake. Jones is not a better player than Marner. Nor is Dougie Hamilton.

Personally, I take Jones over Marner
(always have, no recency bias)
Unfortunately the pending UFA contract status is an issue, since he won’t sign an extension yet😔 |

It was a complete pain to wake up for work but I don't care.
As Tony would say, I'm feeling grrrrrrrreat!
The only thing keeping me awake is strong coffee and the continued hype from yesterday.

I think Jones is like a lot of players his age. He wants to win. Reports are he wants to go to Colorado. But they have younger better DMen that are due new contracts. I don't think Sakic has a fit for Jones. I fear Leaf fans see the Jones of last year's playoffs. Is he really that good? |

I hate you so much. But I hate myself more. And Marner even more than that.
(frank) it, I’ll say it. Get Price a Cup. |

I got my 2nd shot at 7 pm last night, then had a few beers watching the game.
Today is going to be a struggle.

Jones fits a need here more than he would in Colorado.. Unless, he wants to be a 2nd pairing guy in Colorado |

Hey, 1 turned over cop car.
Overall I thought the 15 000 outside the arena acted civilized enough.
We've seen much worse for less.

If Price wins a Cup, then eventually, the Leafs will win one as well, maybe like before Matthews retires? |
