Clearly having a core of big defensemen is key for both Vegas and Montreal, along with stellar goaltending.

Both teams are weak at the center position but a lot of big bodies out there playing playoff style hockey.

Big and heavy.

I'm cool with one small D but you need some big heavies otherwise the opposition runs your D over. Especially with the speed some of these forwards are getting on the forecheck.

Pod looks like a gamer, love how he stepped up in the playoffs in the KHL and also didn't mope around despite getting jerked around by head coach with limited minutes during the regular season. Seems to be mentally tough kid

Ahh.

Yeah, I don’t buy into the lefty on the left at all costs theory.

- 1970vintage

You should. For every Theodore helping in the ozone, there is 5 Martinez (frank)ing up in the D zone.

Playoff hockey is so much different than the regular season. If you’re speedy and skilled you still need size, if you’re slower and plodding you need size, goaltending and good solid systems.

If you’re a fan of multiple teams your chances of winning, as a fan, are exponentially higher

It's just a rarity that teams with big smart defensemen win playoff hockey.

If Travis Green can learn and grow as a coach over time, like most normal human beings in normal life, Jim Benning excluded, why can’t Haksol?

Not a lot of fly bys. There's no way players could keep this type of physicality up for the regular season. But it's why I love playoff hockey. The battle of the boards.

Nothing about him growing as a coach but with Tochett and Julien and Quinn available.

I've noticed Vegas and Tampa are basically built/coached to take chances, seems like having top notch goaltending that can handle defensive breakdowns is fine by them since they plan on generating extra offense and also getting bailed out enough by Vasy/Fleury/Lehner.

You may want to check The Habs centers again.
