They didn’t go into the coat, but yeah, it would be expensive. And, it would likely put them in a post Gillis type situation in a few years. No prospects, aging stars, no cap space.
Cause and effect. Give out term and aav to free agents who are now anchoring this team from being competitive, then live with the consequences. LE, Beagle, virtanen, roussell will continue to hold this team back from getting better and being better. Time to let those contracts expire and start fresh next season.

i'm cool with that idea.
i'm also good with bringing in some new blood this year...just shorter term deals 1-3 years max.
Whoever gets Eichsey wins the trade, unless it’s a Pettersson for Eichel type deal. As soon as one team is “adding pieces” the trade is a win for the acquiring team.

Mony can still be a good 2C i reckon.
I have my doubts about Eichel's health and his ability to carry a line.
Also i don't think he'd do well under Sutter.
But i take your point that Eichel would be the most talented player in that trade scenario.

The Chucky/Mono type deal is really Buffalo’s best scenario. Fewer pieces of higher quality. If they go multiple picks and B prospects it would be a disaster.
