Bitter comments now, grounded retrospective thoughts later

When you ice a roster formulated to win 2-1 or 1-0, you're going to play a lot of exhausting hockey. If you choose to sit a young sniper like Wahlstrom in favor of a vet like Zajac because you want to win a few more faceoffs, you risk having one less game changer when you need a goal. Place a 4th line defensive grinder on a line with two offensive talents and then wonder why their offensive productivity took a nose-dive.

That said, the Islanders went further than 28 other teams despite making no significant offseason upgrades, losing their leading goal scorer/captain and having an injured Pageau. Yet we were within 3 periods of the Stanley Cup.

Our coach made that happen. Now it's up to Lou to add the final piece. We're releveant. We're a force in the NHL. We're more than just 'back'. It's a process and there are 28 other teams that would have loved to have made it this far.

A lot of questionable lineup decisions that you’ll get the usual, “we made it this far” response to from the usual suspects. The same people that thought Komarov was a great first line winger.
- Cptmjl

We made it that far means nothing to me right now. I’m getting old and making it this far in this sport is so damned hard. Not playing your best lineup in Game 7 is inexcusable. Not even Komarov but what has Zajac done in this series that Wahlstrom couldn’t? Why double shift Pageau when he’s obviously compromised? Where was the sense of urgency almost the entire game?

I’ll be happy about this season at some point but it’s just typical to have a play like the Pulock play happen and then lose the series. It’s Endy Chavez all over again.

Fire Trotz? Dude took the Isles 1 win away from the finals and you want him canned? Tampa is just better.

Man, was really hoping for a clash between two historic franchise in the finals.

We'll try and avenge you guys!

Good luck to the Habs. Going to be real tough. I hope the Habs can get it done. They are going to have to bring an actual functioning offense to have any chance.

If they fire Trotz you guys deserve another 3 decades of hell. Trotz should be 100% safe.

Isles did not loss with their best Potvin. If Barry even tried Wally at least once in this series and played Palms on the 1st line you could not have asked for more. Thought the entire idea of trading for Palms was to help the lost of Lee? This one hurts so much more than last year.

No way you fire Barry but he had a bad series. No debate on this.

Zajac was great games 3 and 4 against the Bruins in place for Wahlstrom. I don’t have an answer for why he has been in there since. This entire series he has been terrible on a line with an injured center. I don’t get it either.

Ummmmm, no. Palmieri made a no-look delayed dump along the boards allowing Tampa to get out of their own zone. Then with two guys pinching over in the defensive corner, Palmieri joined them leaving the trailer alone for an easy goal. It was a terrible series of fails from a player who had otherwise been wonderful for us, but a total f-up none the less

Trotz is obviously awesome but that. Zajac and other weird stuff. We lost a game by a short handed goal and we have Komarov on our first line. Sorry that’s questionable I don’t give a (frank) who is the coach.

Barry's own words were he did not believe a player should lose their spot due to injury so explain no Wally?

How many times did the NBC guys who hate the Isles say you have to change the lines? This is not the 1st game they said it.

I'm okay with that on the PP, although he was rather passive (typical). But Palmieri was the THIRD man in and came from in front of Varly, where he totally shouldhave surveyed incoming threats

I would agree with some of the points being made but this was a slugfest marathon. I didn't get to see the whole game but the Islanders looked fatigued. Tampa has what the Islanders have with a couple more high end pieces. It pains me to say this but the Isles did a legit job pushing them to the brink.

It'll be interesting to see where they go from here.
