Hains: It Was Written in the Stars

The last team to book its place in the Stanley Cup playoffs is the first one to get its ticket to the Stanley Cup final on the back of a 3-2 overtime win on the Golden Knights.

Great Blog, yes this to me it all feels surreal. I’m 28 started watching the Habs religiously since I was 8 I can’t remember a time I didn’t rock a Habs snap back, or even miss a game for that matter. This will be a story I tell my daughters in the years to come. I’m trying desperately to get them interested in hockey, haha they are probably still to young nevertheless there is still 4 more wins to go get. Win or lose though I’m extremely proud. Go Habs GO

Congrats! This blog has been consistently good through the run (and before), appreciate all the hard work getting the posts out. As much as it hurt to lose to the Habs I can appreciate them over coming the doubters and beating the Knights, representing the North division well. Also good to see Price get to the finals and potentially beyond. As a top goalie of his era who has been through it all, he deserves it.

One has to wonder if Carey Price gets the Conn Smythe regardless of whether they win the cup or not. We all know Giguere did it but when it comes to the title of MVP (Hart or Smythe) the simple question to ask is does this team get this far without said player? I'd have to say without Carey Price, no way does this team even sniff the finals. Take any of the best player remaining of the 2 other teams Tampa or Islanders and ask if they can make it to the cup, the answer is yes, they have a shot. In my mind Price is the shoe in for MVP, cup or not.

I've been saying our Habs will lose since day 1 of the playoffs. Don't expect me to say elsewise. They'll lose ! You know what ? They'll lose ! (you know I don't want it, but I have to say it)

What a night.

Bonne St-Jean ! :D

What a game, series and playoffs so far. Normally I'd complain of only getting a few hours sleep every second night, but man has this been worth it. Besides, you can always sleep once this is all done ( hopefully with a cup to show for it). Go Habs go!

I've been thinking the same, if there's a strong showing in the finals, Carey has to be considered for the Conn Smythe.

What Brayden Point has done thus far, is impressive, no doubt.

However, the goalie plays (generally) 60 minutes a game. Sure, they may not be sprinting back and forth, up and down the ice, but the goalie needs to be sharp at all times. Unlike a lot of goalies, Price is active on the puck on the dump in, almost like an extra defenseman hustling back. By doing so, Carey takes a lot of pressure off the defense who are rushing back. It may not seem like much, but it adds up to a lot.

I don't know what the future holds for our team right now. I see and hope for the best, pessimism over the past 28 years gives me doubt.

No matter what, I'm fiercely proud of what our group of players have accomplished this year. The Habs have been written off since day one, despite the mantra of, "There are teams that make the playoffs, and there are teams that survive them... The Canadiens are the latter."

Were we the best all year in our division? Nope. Despite our red hot start, the Habs faltered and struggled to even make the playoffs. (More on that in a minute...)

When we made the playoffs... BARELY... In a poll, absolutely nobody in the mainstream media, including our own beloved EE, thought the Habs could beat the Leafs.

We proved them wrong.

In the North finals, Les Canadiens faced a well rested Winnipeg team, who had just swept the Dynamic Duo of McDavid and Draisaitl. They thought we had no chance.

We kinda answered that, didn't we?

When we went up against the 2nd best team in the league in the Conference finals? Les Boys were written off like bad debt.

But those men wearing La Sainte-Flanelle... From the grizzled veterans like Perry and Weber, to the fresh faces of Kotkatniemi, Suzuki, and Caufield.... They answered that statement with their heads held high, a slice of pizza in their hands... Once it was all said and done?

We bit down on that savoury slice, and said, "WE WANT MORE!".

If we win the Cup, we win. But right now, in this very moment, I'm so very proud to be a fan, to support those players who, especially in these bizarre Covid times, who are laying it all on the line.

Lastly, Mme Haines, Karine, the fact the blog wasn't it in 10 minutes speaks to the fact that you care to write a blog befitting of this occasion....

... Or you're drunk like us and have passed out.

Don't care which, thanks for your hard work and dedication to the team this year. Despite Covid, you made something to lift the spirits of us Habs fans, and we're honestly grateful.

Thank you!

GO YOU GLORIOUS BASTARDS GO!

Thanks so much! Not gonna lie, as a Habs fan in Ontario, I was so happy to watch Bozak and Gunnarsson win the Cup.

As an aside...

To those "fans" who decided to take it a step further in "celebration"?

Guess what? I'm still awake, still drinking, but have no urge to wreck things. Incidents like this give us all a bad name. You're no fans. You're idiots looking for an excuse to act stupid.

If Tampa wins and Point has 20 something goals or Kucherov has 40+ points, I don't see how Price would have any chance at it.

I think people are sleeping on Point because of Kuch. 14 goals in 17 playoff games? (frank) me he'd have tied Gallagher for 4th on the Habs in the regular season with 14 goals. Damn. Habs have a few guys tied with 5 goals. 5. Damn

Good blog Karine.

I've taken exception with some positions you've taken in the past, but you've picked up your game. Good job.

Keep it up.

On Drouin, I'm not thinking of him in relation to this team at all. Ducharme yes.

I predicted correctly, Habs in 6. I saw that they had the eye of the tiger. I'll say it now. Habs win the cup if they play the Islanders in 6 games. If it's Tampa, they win in 7, only because Tampa dives for penalties all the time.

Congrats to the habs and their faithful fans, been a hell of a run.shutting down Toronto's top line from scoring, shutting down Winnipegs top scorers(except schiefele who shut himself down) and then blanking the vegas top 2 lines.
Incredible defensive commitment by the entire team, its actually been fun to watch them frustrate other teams.
I've watched games from all series in these playoffs, and carey price is clearly the conn smythe winner and it's not even close imho.point is doing good things, and so is vasilevsky, but price has outplayed them both, his focus is so good right now,his play is allowing the defence and forwards to play with more confidence.good luck in the finals, your team has earned it.
