ok so from what I'm reading Habs are only at the dance because of luck and covid....
As far as i Can tell, everyone had to deal with covid so all in the same boat.
As for the divisions, well due to travel restrictions not much choice and EACH division had their weak sisters and easy points.
TBL 24 games against sub 500 teams
EAST division got to beat up on NJ and BUF
WEST had 4 sub 500 teams
NORTH had 3 sub 500 teams
So each division had its share of "luck" for the top teams.
Yes luck and bounces come into play so do refs, but to disrespect the players and try to put it ALL on luck and circumstance.....
SO TBL was lucky that Kuch was injured just long enough to make it back PO game 1??? HMMMM |

I'm curious to see what TBL does in the off-season, cap friendly doesn't look good.
No more LTIR as the contracts are done and 19 players signed for 86M cap hit ouch |

I suspect we'll see a roster fire-sale.
The Kraken will select at least one player even if a deal is not reached with them. That will remove one contract - probably Killorn, Gourde, Palat, Johnson if it's a forward, or possibly McDonagh if it's a d-man. That will ease a portion of the cap pain. If a deal can be reached, then the Kraken might get more than one roster player/contract, along with a package of picks and prospects.
GM's will bend Briesbois over a barrel and exact their revenge. Next season's Lightning roster will not be nearly this deep. This is the LTIR-bending roster's last kick at the can.

Trade Barre-Boulet and a 1st to Seattle so they'll take Tyler Johnson in the Expansion Draft. Trade Palat for a 2nd and a 3rd. This clears 10.3 mil off the cap.
Colton/Point/Kucherov
Killorn/Cirelli/Stamkos
Goodrow/Gourde/Joseph
Katchouk/Stephens/Maroon
Raddysh
Hedman/Rutta
RMD/Cernak
Sergachev/Foote
Schenn
Vasilevskiy/McElsievey
Hedman needs hip surgery so he might start next season on LTIR. Lose Coleman and Savard to UFA. |

Please you are not talking about Stephenson--give me a break, if he is a top center the NHL is a joke
I will give you Tavares----break
Schiefle on the other hand played game one and Montreal dominated- then the series was swept, this is not Connor we are talking about here-no way he makes that big a difference.
You fail to mention Petry playing with 8 fingers, is that a break too??
This idea that Montreal has had all the breaks is nauseating to say the least. - bigmacdaddy
The effect on Winn of losing their #1 C in Schiefle was pretty much the same effect losing JT had on Leafs. So if you're gonna "give" JT, you should also be "giving" Schiefle.
Stephenson IS the C of the number 1 line for Vegas. Losing him means you plug in someone else and mess up ALL the lines. domino effect.
The teams losing those players took a significant hit.
Having said all that, Montreal played the hand they were dealt and won. Good on them for that.
Winning the SC does involve a certain amount of luck - for ANY team making that far. For instance, if Price went down, it's highly doubtful Habs are in the Final, since losing a Conn Smythe candidate would affect their performance. |

I'd like to keep Palat if possible, but I won't be surprised if he is a cap casualty. He has more value than Johnson and might be one of the few trade chips the Bolts have.
I'd also love to see the Lightning replace McElhinney and Schenn.
Whatever happens, this is the current roster's last kick at the can. Briesbois is running out of road to delay the inevitable cap slaughter.

Don't break it to him that the Covid Cup was arguably the toughest Cup to win. Let him continue to wallow in his truculence.

You misunderstood stood me--- I meant when I said I will give you Tavares ---the reason why was it went to seven games----
Winnipeg got swept--- with Schiefle playing one game--- you put McDavid out there and Montreal still wins that series---

You misunderstood ME. I'm saying Montreal has benefited from some luck in these playoffs.
But so do most teams that make it that far.
Still don't understand what you are trying to say wrt JT. If JT does not get injured, Leafs win in less than 7 games? |

Palat has 1 year left on his contract which will make him appealing to teams. Killorn will be gone after next season even though he'll still have a year left on his contract. Point will be getting at least a 4 mil raise next summer.
The year after that it's Sergachev and Cernak who will cash in. So like Chicago, Tampa will lose it's quality depth year by year. But they might also have 3 Cup rings to show for it. Enjoy watching the band while they're still playing together. |

Dont forget the covid gift montreal received as mathematically in the former divisions montreal would not even have made the playoffs. - Shynes57
perhaps the gift Tampa got by going $18M over the cap, also announcing that Kucherov and Stamkos WILL be ready for game 1 when they still had 5 regular season games left… I thought IR was for injuries and not for holding previously injured players out who are good to go for cap reasons |

Yes you understand-- I think the Leafs win--- doesn't mean they do --- just my thoughts--- I would also add-- that if Montreal played Toronto the way they are playing now it would be an ass kicking of epic proportion---- |

Don’t buy into this asterisk malarkey. This is a season just like any other. The playoffs are still the playoffs. Montreal beat good teams to get there. |
|
|
|
Did Tampa not receive any luck?
I would say they received several lucky events, during the Isles series, like the goal they scored with 7 skaters on the ice, which changed the momentum of the game, |

and Braydon Point probably asking for at least $9M after next season they’ll continue to lose more people. tbh at that point they should dump Stamkos to have quality depth behind Kucherov and Point rather than 3 star fowards making top dollar with a bunch of poop minimum salary plugs |

Big old asterisk “made up Canadian division” - Theathletic is for libs
Lol, we still get this "weak Canadian division" crap? Even though the the team that qualified 4th in the division is going to the cup finals. Seems logical.
But, but....luck......and.....other stupidity.
The worst team in the North (Van) finished ahead of 7 other teams in the league. Habs are there because they earned it, period. |
