Only in Vancouver? BS. Only in every market with a sports franchise with a passionate fan base. Some people only see the positives: we’ll, that’s fine, that’s their thing. Some people want to dwell on the negatives, that’s fine too. Some people celebrate the good and female dog about the bad. Also fine. But this constant complaining and over simplifying about fans who see things differently than you (on a bloody fan site, no less) is getting pretty old. - CubanBuffet
Only in Vancouver do I care. I see the good & bad but not going to sway my loyalty. I’m a fan of here only not like others who claim to be fanatical in more than one city. Hypocrites. It gets old cuz the same old ppl say the same old constant crap & I’ll repeat myself as long they do.
He has done more than enough already to leave a lot more than what he was left with. - manvanfan
I should hope so, drafting top 10 six out of seven years it’s a lot easier to pick great young players than it is picking 25-30. Hopefully some of the Canucks second round, and beyond, picks start panning out soon.

I’m like you. The Canucks are my team. If they can’t win the cup then my preference would be that no one does. But who cares if someone cheers for one team or two team or ten teams? There are no rules to being a fan. Cheer how you wanna cheer, let others do the same.

Demko Hoglander for starters. Maybe more yet to come.

No rules to liking more than one team but a fan is a fanatic & has but one team. Those who claim semantics well idc.

Edmonton has picked top 10, 11 out of the last 14 years.
I want to see a great finals but not a fan of any team other than Canucks. Who wins matters not to me. The offseason is all I care about then onto next season & start pulling for my team & only my team. I want every team in our division to lose to every opponent. In that I’m absolute.

His first year was stellar with Demko, Tryamkin & Forsling, beyond that it’s been disappointing considering the poor finishes. Rathbone looks to be a great pick.

Which is why they’ve had a group of great young players, like JB now has, the issue is neither franchise can surround those young core players with a complimentary cast.
Point being, they didn’t compile those great young players from going to a cup final or finishing first in the league for a few years like the guys before Benning. Which was your original point about him compiling more young players than the regime before him.

Woo & others still to develop & could be future pieces to the puzzle.
I’m not fully impressed with JB he has to get more results. His prospects must start to impact more being those not on the team yet. Let contracts expire & build around the core. Time to start filling holes 1 piece at a time. Whether from within of trades or UFA’s he’s run out of mulligans. The window will be opening in the not to far off future. His 2 years left is enough to turn this team into a very good team.

JB's problem is that he can't make something out of what isn't perfect.
Like turning 23 year old Brett Connelly into 2 - 2nd round picks.
Jasek into another 5th round pick or something unless they plan on seeing how he does next season.
Drafting Euros & Americans is a good strategy JB has employed. Downside is they don’t help Utica not developing there with potential future team mates.
Sliding Euro contracts is a good thing. NCCA prospects have done pretty good for us generally speaking. Still though Utica hasn’t had enough high picks but maybe in time that will change. Being in Abby will have many benefits.

Just not enough turn over at the right time. - manvanfan
What does this have to do with Benning doing enough to leave more than he was left with? I was just pointing out the lunacy of what you said. Mike Gillis was terrible at drafting, but, it’s pretty easy to pick much better players in the top ten than the bottom five is all I was saying.
Mike Gillis
2008/09 - 100 points, 7th overall in the league
2009/10 - 103 points, 5th overall in the league
2010/11 - 117 points, 1st overall in the league
2011/12 - 111 points, 1st overall in the league
2012/13 - 59 points, 7th overall in the league (48 GM season)
2013/14 - 83 points, 25th overall in the league
Fired by the owner for wanting to rebuild.
Jim Benning
2014/15 - 101 points, 8th overall in the league
2015/16 - 75 points, 28th overall in the league
2016/17 - 69 points, 29th overall in the league
2017/18 - 73 points, 25th overall in the league
2018/19 - 83 points, 22nd overall in the league
2019/20 - Covid stopped the league, Canucks were 17th overall
2020/21 - 50 points, 23rd overall in the league (56 game season)
Pretty obvious one regime should have picked better players than the other.

Benning’s Non-1st round picks were better than MG’s first round picks, it’s not even close
