I love the cap related butthurt. - Feds91Stammer
No butthurt here man haha...maybe if Pens lost to them in playoffs maybe a little...but zilch butthurt. It wasnt illegal what they did...it still gave them an unfair advantage though haha, cant deny that. |

They cheated... they don't deserve it. And while people will argue it fits within league rules, to me its the equivalent of a guy doing steroids and not getting caught. Kucherov = Lance Armstrong.
Frankly, as far as I am concerned, they are the *asterisk* champions.

I'm not sure why you think that is butthurt? I have no hurt over the situation whatsoever, I just laid things out how I see them. On the contrary, I think you are the one who is butthurt over everyone calling out Tampa for being shady. |

Nah, man. You can recognize something for what it is and be free of emotion about it as I am regarding this.
It almost seems like you get butthurt about anyone talking negatively about it or Kuch...

It’s pretty convoluted but the easiest way to put it is if the cap is 80m and the teams current cap is 79m. You place a 3m player on LTIR you actually only get 2m in relief and have to work under a 79m cap now. It gets more complicated when talking about activating someone and placing someone else on LTIR. The way the calculation works is why you will see those paper moves to manipulate the figure before putting someone on LTIR. It also cripples cap flexibility in terms of making trades. - Feds91Stammer
Thanks for the explanation.
I essentially punted the ability to make a trade in my scenario, which may be another point for not doing it.
I'm still not sure I fully understand. I was guessing if you put another player on LTIR before Malkin cane back that would still keep you under the cap while adding him you'd be cap compliant. I think I'll just take your word there is something in place to prevent that and stop trying to understand it lol. |

Just going to use round numbers to see if I can explain how it might work specifically in your scenario. 80m cap. 10m cap hit for Malkin.
So you make sure you’re at 80m before Malkin goes on LTIR to get the full 10m in relief.
You bring in a 7m goalie. Now you have a cap hit of 77m with an 80m cap. That goalie gets hurt but because you’re not at the full cap you only get 4m in relief. So now you’re at a cap hit of 70m with a 77m cap and don’t have enough room to activate Malkin. You also don’t have the cap to activate Malkin before the goalie goes on LTIR.
You can really only take advantage of LTIR like that if Malkin would miss the entire season which is possible depending what exactly he needed to have surgically repaired.
And just like Kucherov was skating for a while Anders Lee was skating for NYI for a while now but was nowhere near ready to be available for their playoff games. |

I think I got it now thanks. Good explanation.
Malkin for the whole year wouldn't work. Expected recovery timeline I saw was miss around 2 months of the season. Even if they could, I wouldn't try keeping Malkin out all year on a fake extended recovery because they might not even be a play-off team if they did that. |

No, you're wrong
You claimed I based it on 1 game
"confirming my suspicions" implies a thought process previous to the game, (Montreal is a worse version of the Islanders, and since the Islanders struggled to score against Tampa, MTL should have the same problem) the game itself just confirmed what was previously suspected
The statement "Tampa in 5" could have been made at any point prior to the game
MTL is a worse version of the Islanders is accurate to anyone who's been watching the playoffs. (Defensive system, relying on goaltending and opportunistic forwards) Islanders have a better defensive structure and are more physical than MTL. Brayden Point himself said that the Islanders gave them no room out there
Price might steal a game, or the forwards might have a breakout game is what I said
MTL's best chance to win the series was to win game 1 against a tired TBL, then have Price steal a game and hopefully get to a situation where it's 3-2 for Tampa entering game 6 in Montreal. Then MAYBE, anything can happen
Since that didn't happen, and Tampa just handled them easily AFTER finishing a tough 7 game series against the NYI, confirming what I expected PRIOR to the start of the series, I don't see MTL winning more than 1 game, so
"Tampa in 5, This series is gonna suck" |
