I believe this team should stop going after aging vets to fill top 6 roles. If we don’t start playing our prospects, how are we to really know what they can provide? If we trade Monahan, we should replace him with Dube. He’s played center in junior and should be given an opportunity here.
I’m hoping any ufas Tre signs this year don’t block Ruzicka, Gawdin or Phillips from getting a chance.
Sign Ritchie, and Stone both Sutter type players.

but one thing we see in teams making the playoffs....aging vets that can calm the team, and get in the dirty areas.

Perry/Thornton/Weber....Statsny did well in WPG in that role. I think the team is missing that playoff vet that knows how to get through hard times. That ability to pull out of a rut is weak on the current team right now, and if bringing up young guys. Thats role model is more key (roberts was to Crosby, Marleau to the makebeleafs)

Would love to see us get Getzlaff. He played for the Hitmen & I believe he liked Calgary when he did. But he would be that kind of player I would like to see in our top 9.

I have to say, the absolute highlight of this season JUST occurred,

Cassie Cambell is going to work at ESPN. She is gone.

There is a Jesus!

This is the best thing that has happened this season!!!

I’ve quite enjoyed her during intermission, she’s more informed, better prepared, less annoying. Maybe it’s just when she’s doing colour that irks me

Her colour commentary was the worst.

But I believe the quality of the Pre/intermission/post-game banter has decreased significantly since CBC decided to become woke. But I guess that is what progress looks like.

Except whenever the Oilers play & then you can see a piece of McDavid's turd on the end of her nose. It's hard to take after awhile.

Hard to imagine Sutter would bench him less, but he does do a good job at getting a a solid game out of bigger wingers.

Let's say Calgary was taking offers for Tkachuck. What would it take from the Pens?
Guentzal, Poulin, Pettersson and a 1st?

Can the Pens really afford to pay him +9m when he needs a qualifying offer after next season?

Adam Fox won Norris Trophy
Just don't understand why these players don't want to play for the team that drafts them. It would've been nice to have a Norris trophy-winning defenceman at age 23. Like many many years of top defenceman for the Flames.

I gotta say I am impressed with the Flames Scouting staff... found Gaudreau in 3rd round and this Adam Fox was also 3rd round.... too bad he didn't wanna sign with Calgary. Sucks!

I don’t see Eichel wanting to play in Calgary. Reinhart is a more likely target. For the record, Eichel isn’t having back surgery. The disk issue is in his neck. And the disconnect with team is they don’t believe he should have surgery.

So I am still pretty butt hurt by this.

IMO if the league is not going to change the loophole then I would like a rule put into place that says the player can not get their name on an NHL trophy. No Norris, Hart, Bing, or Stanley cup. If you are going to circumvent the rules then there should be consequences. Jus a thought.

Yes. Well, in regards to him they need to make it work. I don't believe Malkin and Letang will be asking for high end money. I'd bet they both take less than 7 million so that will open up a good bit.
Also, taking Guentzal and whoever else it'd take to get Tkachuck would greatly increase the cap space. Just a thought. He's a great young player. It's sad he's not interested in staying there if rumors are true.

I think you should be focusing on J. Hockey. More of a chance he is available.

She knows the game but can't call the game. Great for perspective but terrible doing color. And the love for McDavid made me puke in my mouth. As long as Kelly Hrudey continues I'm happy. Met him a few times, awesome guy.

They're not circumventing any rules. There is a specific rule for NCAA players that they are following. Any drafted player can choose not to sign with the team that drafted them and wait until they're a UFA. It's actually more restrictive for NCAA players. Their rights belong to the team for their entire college eligibility. A junior player can just stay in junior until they're 20 and then sign with whoever they want.

Any player who chooses to go that route, Fox included, is giving up a lot of money though.

Your facts have no place here. I am in the right because my beliefs feel right.

Seriously though, How nice would it be to have Fox? Flames would have their 1 D to build around.

The coaching carousel, Fox being a douche canoe, and the Bennett saga are the three main reasons this team needs to rebuild.

Coaching has been an organizational issue. Ownership/management (IMO) never took the role as seriously as they needed to and pay for a (competent) coach. Fox was never going to come here which is something that should be addressed in the collective bargaining agreement. Sorry, every organization pays huge sums of money to be in this league and its frankly a business. To be held hostage by a player who only wants to play for (X) is horsepoop, especially at the draft. That's not how life works save in the NHL. Put in your time, pay your dues and earn the right to FA, then, pick and choose. I know easy to say but seriously there shouldn't be any way to allow that...

Bennett was simply success too early and the Flames coaching not recognizing he wasn't ready early on. Had he struggled those first few games, he'd likely have spent time developing in the minors not trying to develop in the show. Typical JR success not translating to the pro's.

I think its less about a rebuild and more like strategic tinkering. We aren't getting Eichel so look at what we can get to improve this team. I'm still wondering who backs up Markstrom?

Hit 49c on my little weather station yesterday... 44 right now. Hockey weather!

Yeah Duran, #1 D is the hardest to find and fill. Our scouting staff found us the number 1 D. Now NYR are the ones benefiting from it. Having Fox on the Fames would open up so many more doors for the Flames. Oh well, it is what it is.

The scouting staff didn't find Fox. Everyone knew he was going to be good, and everyone also knew he was committed to Harvard and would be difficult to sign. They knew it was a risk when they picked him.

He's not the first draft pick who wouldn't sign in Calgary, and he won't be the last. Not that big of a deal. He was able to help get them Hanifin and Lindholm, so the Flames fans can't complain too much about it. Fox was also straight forward with the Flames about his intentions every step of the way.
