Yeah, with Lu, Beagle, Rouse, Lui and Holtby all expiring next year I think they can afford $500k.

Seems like a no brainer to me. It’s really too bad they handcuffed themselves so badly, they would have really been in an excellent position this year and next to do some big things.

Letting Dumba walk for Free sounds like pretty piss poor asset management to me . Old Benning would be turning in his grave. Not my concern really. They can choose to get a first for Dumba or not.

Haha, he actually does a lot of research into very random concepts and they turn into really interesting articles. Not meant to be taken too seriously, a bit of a different look at things...:

If you can get paid to do something you love, go for it! Imagine making $0.10 for every time someone quoted your post on here? Cha-ching!

When Jim Benning is eventually fired for his ineptitude, and he will be eventually, I would bet large sums of money he'll never be employed as a full-time general manager in the National Hockey League again. Shades of Mike Gillis.

Which speaks to how bad the ownership of the Vancouver Canucks is

Homes being evacuated today in Kamloops because of lightning started wildfires. What a horrible week.

Juniper area evacuated. I just drove by the Costco before it opened and it looked like a trailer subdivision.

How many times have the Canucks had a first time General Manager? In fact, have they actually ever had a GM who has had GM experience before Vancouver? In my memory:

Quinn
Keenan
Burke
Nonis
Gillis
Benning

None of those guys had previous experience did they (Quinn maybe?)

Sounds about right. The mindset on the left coast of Canada is just different, imo, it's not conducive to having winning sports franchises because the people that can afford this sort of thing are outside the box thinkers who overthink things....that probably doesn't make any sense, except to me, but with 50+ years of not winning there's truly some sort of systemic issues within the clubs culture despite who owns it or who manages it.

Lisa no-Helps is a prime example of this, so many green thinking people empower her to lead yet she's making a mockery of Victoria. When I was a kid downtown was a great place, now it's full of traffic congestion from so many bike lanes, it's full of homeless people and crime, and she keeps throwing good money after bad. The city is turning into a shithole.

The GM previous to Quinn, Gordon, was briefly the GM of the Minnesota North Stars.

I didn’t realize there was so much controversy over Quinn joining the Canucks. LA sued the Canucks for tampering given he was still under contract as their head coach - apparently they missed a deadline for an out clause or some nonsense

There was absolutely no mention of the fans there, none. It did however mention the people who are wealthy enough to own sports franchises and the decisions they make to put people in charge who aren't really suited to be.

Jake Milford was probably the most qualified and competent GM the Canucks have ever had.

So
Poile - 2
Milford- 4
Gordon - 4

Milford probably the most accomplished prior to his tenure in Vancouver.

I’ve never read a job posting that said “no previous experience required”…

I mean, obviously this is hyperbole, as all the guys who were AGMs had some experience in parts of the job.

Benning was actually probably one of the most qualified and ready to be general managers they've ever hired with his scouting background and years as an assistant GM.

Unfortunately for Vancouver it has worked out so well, however, his incompetence has lead to poor finishes and excellent draft positions where they've picked some really good young players to build around. They just need to find someone who can fill in those perimeter roles with much much more efficiency.
