Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press reports that an autopsy revealed that Kivlenieks died of chest trauma due to a fireworks mortar blast, not the head injury that was originally reported. - manvanfan
With a 3.31 GAA I’m surprised the firework actually hit him…
Too soon? |

15M this year and next year 46M. There's 31M difference. - manvanfan
But you haven’t signed Pettersson, Hughes, Boeser or any quality D yet. That 31m could disappear in a hurry and you’re talking about an extra $900k this year, is that really a game changer? |

That's a pretty impressive -14 in a league that's probably worse than the BCHL.
Worse that he was almost a PPG player. Doubling the amount of goals he is on against than for. - manvanfan
The team's overall defensive stats are pretty pitiful. It's senseless to pin that on a 17 year old Dman. Especially when the Goalie is rocking a 4.80 Gaa and .873 Sv%. |

There's no problem we'll be compliant. |

You literally said Beagle, roussel and ferland on LTIR to start the year lol. I'm just reiterating why you can't project lineups for next year or plan for a bunch of free cap space based on the previous years injuries. Canucks haven't played in over 2 months now, that's a ton of recovery time for most injuries/surgeries. Ferland would be my only guess as to a canuck that starts the year on LTIR
And as far as the bolded above. That's not what LTIR is supposed to be for lol - Codes1087
I'm sure every NHL GM just sits and waits. Its not like the flat cap has put any urgency to shuffle their rosters. Isn't it funny how some players play injured and others LTIR for indefinite recovery periods. |

The difference of getting Hamonic back possibly?
Once you have signed Hughes and Petey, part of that 15M is gone from this year as well along with next year so the cap space will still be the same between the two years. |

If you are talking the final round 1942 Leafs
If any round 2014 Kings , 1975 Islanders, 2010 Flyers |

If we were talking about $900k being the tipping point between making a deep run or a 50/50 first round series then I’d be willing to listen. But signing Hamonic, or running with Brisebois…🤷♂️ |

buying out LE also gives up another contract spot. Another spot to sign a free agent that could be traded for a draft pick later if they aren't in a playoff spot or sign a young free agent after the college/chl season. Adding a prospect at the end of the season that has had a good year like Caufield that might help in the playoffs.
Don't forget trading for Pat Maroon to make a playoff run. |

Players play injured in the playoffs all the time. Martinez played on a broken foot. Their replacement players aren't as good as them being injured I guess. But the regular season is different. I imagine the league needs proof that a player is actually injured before allowing the team to place them on LTIR. It's not just an arbitrary reserve where players go when GMs want to save cap space. |

For the sake of furthering the discussion, sure. I also think he may have another growth spurt in him. Like 4 inches in height and another 40 pounds. |

Not excuses purely perspective…
No training camp.
-difficult to implement structure
New players.
-difficult to gel outta the gate
Both of the above apply to all teams with some being together longer & a smoother go of it.
Call last year a write off with higher expectations for next season without the above circumstances. |

How many contracts do they currently have? I’d bet they are no where near close to the limit. And Benning has never, not once, signed guys who he then turned into something better. So I’ll kindly tell you to take your theories and go frank yourself.
