In 2015, the Boston Bruins had three consecutive (!) first-round picks, and chose to pick all three. They selected Jakub Zboril, Jake DeBrusk, and Zach Senyshyn, painfully passing on Mathew Barzal, Kyle Connor, and Thomas Chabot (Shoutout Boston for being a legitimately good team every year since 2015 despite all that). |

I would tradfe 1 overall for the 3 first rd picks the blue jackets have
(hides) - homiedclown
I’d be ok with that
Maybe even get them to throw in a goalie? |

So that would be 5, 24, and like 29? (just curious)
Thanks! |

Not necessarily true
Picks 3, 5 & 8 are more likely to sign (& start their ELCs) sooner than picks 20 & 32 - jdfitz77
with 3 and 5, say eklund and clarke, probably a year apart as d-men need a bit more development time...wallstedt at 8 is probably at least two years away |

The last case study worth mentioning is the 2015 Buffalo Sabres, who selected Jack Eichel second, then traded the 21st and 26th overall picks. Like the 2013 Flames, the Blue Jackets could easily find themselves picking somewhere similar to 2, 21, and 26. But let this draft be a cautionary tale. In an attempt to speed up their rebuild, the Sabres traded picks that eventually became Colin White and Jack Roslovic. |

Don't forget 31 that year too, or the 62nd that went to the Rangers. |

Is it possible the Sabres trade down?
I feel like given the situation they are in, Power would be a guy the Kings would covet. Would the Sabres take the #8, the Kings first rounder next year (protected for top 3) and one of their good not great prospects (Akil or Kupari)? - MacPatty

3, 5, 8, 20 and 32
All the picks!
Problem is if you actually hit on 4/5 then their contracts all come due at the same time - Hank Balling
Or you miss on all of them (ala Boston) and disaster. |

Interesting read Dog, Thanks. So the sweet spot is pick 25, after that he says it's a big drop-off. |

Crazy that 17 has the same probability as pick 28.. with almost at 20% increase from 23-26 |

Haven't done Clarke yet.
My money is on you guys getting Hughes. Really, really like what I've seen from him - Hank Balling
Great! Thank you! You do an amazing job!
We are stuck with MIA Mussa who provides little info and now he is teaming and with Sam Woo who well is embarrassing with his takes but have been following your blogs especially with prospects and getting alot of info from them
I think the devil's do go with Hughes too but the also have Clarke's brother too and Clarke may be better offensively |

I like Clarke and think hes great but Hughes is exceptional on the Offensive side.
I feel like Clarke might be the better all around D-man

we seem to grab a lot of the Jiri Dudacek, Dennis Persson, Barrett Heisten in that sweet spot
once in a while we get lucky and grab a Jiri Novotny |

Just shows how lucky you need to be, and how bad the Sabres drafts were from the last decade or so. |
