Ventura hire gives me hope they're doing more than playing dominoes at least. That guy knows his stuff from everything I've read. |

When Karmanos was hired, many were hoping he became effective GM. Now, I'm hoping Ventura is effective GM. Strange place.

I'm hoping they're doing that regardless of what's going on with Eichel, but that deal could affect FA especially, so I get it.
I think the issue I have with that is that then his value drops. If other teams know there is a date of 8/1 (ex) to acquire Jack by and he's not moved over the next couple days, those same offers never climb. Why would we pay more?
I guess it's a credibility issue, but also an issue of leverage. I think we would be making a temporary power move by calling that out, when in reality we don't really have a good deal in the pocket yet (assuming here) to fall back on. Unless an offer has come in they'd be willing to accept, I think you have to let the chips fall for a while, no? - RhinoFan

Furthermore, I think there's a decent chance that one of Jack or Samson is still here come puck drop next season. No reason why we can't plan for having none, one or both of them for next year...actually a prudent team would be doing this already. - RhinoFan
Kevyn Adams has had at least 5 interviews once the season ended. Not one of them included Jack and Sam when he discussed building around the young core of, and I quote, "Rasmus Dahlin" "Dylan Cozens" "Casey Mittelstadt"

I'd pay money to know where him and Karm stand on all of this tbh. |

They both signed here knowing exactly where the two of them were going. And that's somewhere else.
They were brought here to begin acquiring the right pieces in return and building something intelligent with them and the current pieces.

Good place IMO. I believe Ventura actually has some sort of statistics degree or something, it was odd said he was an assistant professor at a college, but I can't find where he got his degree. Either way, probably a smart cookie.
Can't argue having a couple smart cookies helping now. |

Ventura, who has a Ph.D in statistics from Carnegie Mellon University, had been with the Penguins since the 2015-16 season. Ventura was first hired as a team consultant, then was promoted to director of analytics and hockey research in 2017. He was promoted again to director of hockey operations and hockey research in 2020, a role that had Ventura involved with the salary cap, CBA, and the overall hockey operations' budget concerns. |

That's true, does seem like he's trying to drop hints. Let's put it this way, if it was set in stone it would've been done by now. Think folks need to at least tap the brakes there. At least in Jack's case, most believe they should hold out for the right deal, that may not get done this summer.
I would say, I doubt either of them are here in a couple seasons, I just don't know it will be as immediate as we think. |

Thanks for this. He also made some war-on-ice.com site that was why he got the job in Pitt, was well done. |

That isn't true.
Reinhart is gone and so is Jack. Neither suit up in Buffalo come October. Bet on it. (This part of the post is my opinion) |

Honestly, if I was going to pick a team to GM, we certainly are going to give him time, there's no pressure to win now and you have Jack/Samson as trade bait...
I can see why they took it despite the sign that says "FIRE!" outside the door. |

I like the hire a lot. If I were interviewing the 3 for the GM job, I'm almost certain I'd hire Ventura. It's just a little backwards. Even more so when KA discusses how valuable the interview process for a coach has been.

If they're close, I must admit, it would make a lot better sense. If it's 2 or 3 teams that are relatively close, poke them with a hot iron. Think this applies if we're trying to really raise the level of the offers.
That would be awesome. I'd pay money and keep quiet about it too if I could sit in on one TDL week. - RhinoFan
They should raffle that off. Could put it towards the yacht fund 😂 |
