we should be honored that we were blessed with two blogs in one day. especially when it's about something as irrelevant as the re-signing of Scott Wedgewood. |

I really like the Devils signing Wedgewood to a one year, two-way contract. It is a perfect fit for both The Devils' Organization and for Wedgewood. In Utica, Wedgewood can be the go-to goaltender and a mentor to the other young goaltenders there. He can also be a depth goaltender for New Jersey in case of injury... Next on the GM's agenda should be to sign a quality and experienced NHL goaltender to backup Blackwood. |

This is the important part. With Wedge we finally have an AHL goalie that can get called up if needed; but the important signing is getting a real NHL quality backup in here and hopefully a 1B guy.
Based on last year, I think Tommy F. will look for an veteran ex-starter. My preference is to sign a younger guy.

With two Devs blogs out there, uncertain where to post, lol. 10 days until protected lists are due. Pressure has to be building on some teams with too many players to protect, looking at TB, Wild, Carolina and Oilers. Perhaps Fitz can "help" one of them out.... |

I mean he has averaged 2 games per season since we drafted him... Isn't that more noteworthy than the pending Cup final, upcoming draft, expansion draft, and free agency?

Hey, lets appreciate the upward trend we are seeing, 3 posts within 1 week. The third of which is intelligible and proofread. Thanks Woo, keep 'em coming. |

Haha fair enough. Happy to have more blogs, and looking forward to the next one for sure. Hoping to have some more opinions on the draft, more specifically surrounding our options for our late 1st isls pick. |

I wouldn't mind using the 28th pick (alone or as part of a package) to get some now help. What do you guys think about Connor Garland, and what it would take to get him from AZ? They don't have a first this year.... plus Garland is small, and would keep with the 5'10 100 and nothing mold we are using for our forward pool. |

I would love Garland, he'd be a fantastic fit. But for the cost i'd rather use those assets to upgrade the D. I know their owners dont want to spend money at all so i'd try to take some salary from them(anybody except OEL, (frank) that contract) to get Garland at a cheaper cost if possible |

I wouldn't pass on Garland if it meant giving up the 28th pick. If Murray walks, maybe Chyckrun becomes a guy Fitz takes a harder look at. My only fear is that we make some trades locking up a new D core before we get a chance to see what Shak/Walsh/Bahl can do. Ideally we patch in a couple of guys on 1 year deals to bridge that gap. I would love Oleksiak as a 3rd pairing guy, and Martinez as a top 4. I don't think we are landing the best UFA's, but there certainly are plenty of low-risk options in the short term. I am curious to see what happens now that O'Niel is not around to protect Sevo. I would love to see a trade that involved.
Sevo + 2nd rd pick for Dumba before Minnie loses him for absolutely nothing
Ink Martinez, Murray, and Oleksiak on 1 yr deals
won't happen, but one can dream:
Murray Dumba
Martinez Smith
Oleksiak P.K

I am still pissed that we got screwed last year with the order of our picks (and Rags somehow got 1OA). Dropping from 19th to 28th this year did not cheer me up. But the more I read about who maybe available at the range (plus if someone drops) the less pissed I am. At 19 you had an attractive trade chip, at 28 not so much. Cannot wait to see how Fitz plays this offseason starting with buyouts tomorrow. |
