Depending on who they like, they can probably get him at 2, 3 or 4 while accumulating more good stuff.
If they like Power at 1, take him.
If they like someone else, they can truly maximize the pick by moving around the top-5 - Hank Balling
I bolded and underlined the 2 key words above that are major holes in your theory, IMO. |

i'd focus on jack to minny, skunk to vancouver...come away with 1, 9 and 22/26...go power and pick one of the two goalies with one of the other picks |

If it were me, I wouldn't be angling for late firsts. While those assets can certainly be valuable, I'd rather just use 1OA to pull in a great young player around 20/21 years old. Those late firsts could take 2-3 years to land on the roster. I want the Zegras' of the world to start playing in the NHL this year for the Sabres. Develop this core of players. 2016 draft years+.
Per the value chart produced by the Athletic, Columbus holds 14.5 points in 1st round pick value, where Buffalo's 1OA is 17.7. I wouldn't do the 3 for 1 deal, but if it was my only avenue, I'd be demanding a young player in return as well. If the Sabres need to balance the trade, so be it, they have the assets to do so. We know the #1 and highly likely #5 will be getting NHL minutes, ideally over a long career. We don't know how 24 and 31 will turn out. Two gambles just to move down 4 spots? I don't see it as quality asset management.
Get young developing players who you already have 2-3 years of tape on post draft year. - TheSabresTaco
This.
Trading 1-OA would require 5-OA, 6-0A and 31-ish...or 4-OA and 5-OA.

I don't know why, but I still feel like they'll end up with picks 1, 3, and 8 after trading Eichel and Reinhart.
Dark horse traded candidates for Eichel are Vegas and Colorado. |

If it's worth it. In the NHL, it's usually not and team's just take their guy.
It would have to be a lot more than draft considerations. With Vegas, we paid a 6th. It's just not that valuable with our roster.

Do you really see Seattle blinking of Adams suddenly tells them we're taking Beniers if we don't make this trade? I don't. - buffalofan19
Adams wouldn't say that. He might say that for a little murrency he would drop down since he has all of the prospects ranked the same. If Seattle wants power they might offer up something decent.

The only thing that matters is their views of Hughes of Eklund vs Beniers and Power.
Unfortunately we don't know.

I know you're a big Power guy but he is not a true consensus pick. There are plenty of rankings that differ from Power at #1.
It's very possible that when all is said and done, a player taken at 3, 4 or 5 is the best player in the draft - Hank Balling
I like Power but it’s not like im convinced he’s a superstar.
I am however convinced that neither you or I can definitely say Luke Hughes is better or worse, or Eklund is for sure better or worse than Beniers etc
Power is as close to a consensus #1 amongst the main scouting services as you can get. Odds are that #1 pick historically will be very good.
The odds drop dramatically as you go down the list

Turcotte is one of the top prospects correct? I can't see Reinhart getting a high 1st round pick and a top prospect |

that's a dream scenario that i'd take in a heartbeat...the reason i like minny for jack is that they it might be easier for the wild to include rossi/boldy in the deal because of the later 1st round pick...and i also feel that skunk to the nucks makes a lot of sense as he probably has a lot of interest in signing a long-term deal there |

to minny--jack
to buffalo--rossi/boldy, fiala, 2021 1st (22/26) dumba, 2021 3rd
to van--skunk
to buffalo--2021 9th overall, vasili podkolzin
this would make me happy as they end up with three 1st rounders (1, 9, 22/26), a center prospect (rossi/boldy) and two wingers who step right into the lineup |
