So this is your second marriage. Got it.

You are terrible at "trash" talk. Stick to the I am smarter than everyone approach.

- hello it's me 2050

No. Unless you count past lives.

There is not much you get, frankly, outside the establishments already referred to.

I am indeed terrible at trash talk. I don't usually need to. I can almost always get inside people's skins with the talk without the trash part. This board is my proof.

Btw, most white people are terrible and unfunny with trash talk. The kids with whom I (used to, before covid) shoot hoops are so effortless at it.

"Mister PT his ass so big there are two bathtubs in his bathroom."

"Mister PT his chest so big if he was black he could be my mama."

and a countless stream of such...

I don't understand why this drafting later argument gets so much credence here.

You tell your kid to study hard. In his down time, you insist he learn the violin.

Turns out he is not much of a student. However, he develops into a first rate violinist.

Do you not get any credit for the last because you prioritized studying over music lessons?

- PT21

For your.supportiveness of him pursuing violin lessons? Sure.

For having some sort of advanced insight that he had a special level of talent? No.

Then we are in agreement. They were lucky in seeing these players turn into superstars. But they deserve credit for thinking these players had potential enough to be picked.

Just like you were lucky that the kid turned into a violin maestro. But you deserve credit for thinking he had violin potential, when there were so many other hobbies you could have directed him to....

EDIT: Also, I forgot to add, that last credit is only diluted (but not eliminated) by the fact that you asked him to do something else as a first priority (study).

There is no single poster in the history of hockeybuzz who has posted more personal insults at other posters than you have. Even to the point of attempting to use the death of a parent against someone in a personal attack. This board is the proof of that.

The point that you continually overlook is that they thought 3 other players had more potential than Brayden Point did. Two of those players were complete busts. This is a clear indication that they had no idea what kind of player Point was going to become. Sure give them credit for pulling the trigger on the pick but in Point becoming a star player on his way to the HOF. Complete luck.

Stayin' alive is SMS, from 'Bumbalo' with over 100 email accounts obtained for towels and a pretty good record with predictions (correctly called Habs against VGK which impressed me, for I put money on the reverse).

Hello Its 2050 is login/rinaldo with a Hockeybuzz past I am not going to mention and from the North East of Philly relocated to Camden.

So, no, they are about the same as Bill is actually MJL.

It is far too late for humanity already. And for hockey.

The temperature in Philly summers has risen 3 entire degrees since 1970, and nights are a full 5 degrees warmer.

In Portland Oregon, where I went to school for 2 years, the normal high for this time of the year is 73 . It reached 115 a few days ago.

The highest temperature ever recorded in Europe and North America outside the south-west desert basin of the US is in (frank)ing Canada!

People are not going to play an expensive sport only in rinks. They will need ice around them as kids to skate and learn, play shinny, go sledding etc.

Since that ice is on its way out, buh bye hockey, and buh bye humanity.

and it will be a demise well deserved.

seriously though, im struggling with how much there seems to be a need for a definitive black and white argument as to whether tampa's roster building was luck or skill. theres a good bit of both.

i'll never say complete luck because hey, they were the ones that took him. i think he was a third rounder? not a totally insignificant pick. clearly someone over there had a decent inkling. however, to dismiss luck at all is lunacy. you cant just wave away the concept of them taking multiple players before him while still holding the idea that they "knew he would be this good", because they wouldnt have done so. same with kucherov. blind luck is harsh to me and diminishes their hand in it to too great a degree, but the good fortune element is undeniable.

even on the home run picks. they deserve credit for picking hedman number one, but theres good fortune in sucking the year he was the top ranked D coming out and not say, erik johnson's year.

Exactly.

For every player, there is a range of possibilities each team assesses:: x % stud, y% franchise, z% 1st liner, and so on.

Even if x, y were small for Tampa and they got lucky with say Point, maybe x, y for them was larger than for other teams. Surely they deserve credit for that, and even more credit since there were so many in a row.

yes, but at the same time theyd also be lying if they told you they knew just how good those players would be. im just saying, its not absolute in either direction.

Sure. Lets compare Flyers with Tampa hypothetically.

Tampa: Point is a stud with 5% chance.
Flyers: Point is a stud with 1% chance.

Fact that he turned out to be a stud is 95% luck for Tampa. But they still get credit over Flyers for the fact that they assigned a higher chance.

im not saying they should be deprived of all credit. after all, you can only get "lucky" so many times until you need to start using a word thats much more deliberate. the talent they have amassed is ridiculous. i do think they got off the hook a good bit with the cap games. no they wouldnt have lost anyone huge but its those kilorns/palat types that supplement the star power so well that are usually the pieces that get bled from you in free agency. hopefully that happens this year.

i definitely have some bitter grapes to them for being the new dynasty, but their crown is properly given. its insane to me that the best winger, dman, and goalie are all on the same team.

They get a tremendous amount of credit for the makeover. They were an offensive razzle-dazzle team just 2 years ago. They got swept by a gritty, hard fore-checking ,tough defense team. Now, they are winning huge 1-0 games.

Speaking of which, I think both the Pens with Kessel and the Hawks with their lines had more incisive offenses. In game 4-5, there were times I thought Kucherov had turned into Ville Leino.
