Having an argument with the better half:

Leftover chalet sauce... drink or chuck?

Love it on the chicken - but it's not a beverage. I vote chuck.

My point is that people keep saying Tampa was 17 million or 20 million over the cap.

But they are including contracts who were never going to play. There are dead contracts like Gaborik's all over the league.

Tampa was well over the cap in the playoffs - but not to the extent some are accusing.

This point exactly sums up why we never agree.

We are on exact opposite sides of the game. You apparently think it's JUST a skill game like Dubas.

I think it's a contact sport. Using the body opens up space to give Matthews more time to take his shot....therefore missing less.

Any player that is on the ice in a contact sport needs to make contact. Same as Tampa using the CBA to their advantage, other teams use contact to their advantage against the Leafs.

If it was just about Matthews making a few more shots....we would win the Cup every year if Keefe would use the flying V. Easy peasy.

It's not. It's about competing, which includes hitting and not being afraid. Bottom line.

Love to see a NFL player that doesn't like contact survive in that league.

I didn’t say skill was all we need. Don’t just automatically put everything into your preset arguing points. My point was simple: a goal or two more from Matthews in that series and the Leafs advance. An Engvall hit or two more doesn’t make a big difference. I’m not making some big philosophical point. I’m talking about those actual 7 games and what it would have meant if Matthews, the $11M guy, the skill guy, was actually doing his skill thing and putting the puck in the net and not over the net.

Before they make roster moves I think they should make sure Keefe is the guy.
I've questioned his strategies on numerous occasions.

If Cooper (B2B) can take the time to match lines what doesn't Keefe?
He did nothing to shield Matthews from Danault.

Maybe try to shake up the lines.
How about Using the slap shot from the point on a power play.
Again Keefe did nothing to change it up.
I can't put any blame on the fold to Dubas. He made some shrewd moves.
Matthews, Marner and an anemic power play.
Anyone of those come through and we beat Montreal.

The idea that this conversation can occur and it entirely be about Matthews and not Marner is absurd. Matthews was engaged, creating offence, hitting, you could tell he wanted to leave it on the line. Marner was a detriment and a liability. Two very different things if we're talking about the $11M guy.

Engvall hits, I think you meant Weelander and his 1 hit every 5 games? ( usually because he stumbled into them 🤣 )

What really bugs me is guys who hit but shy away from scoring. Too lazy and afraid to score.

I’m sorry I forgot that everything has to be about Marner all the time. The discussion was less about Matthews and more about how a few more goals might have helped in that series and Matthews is a goal scorer. But your point is noted: Marner is the worst ever.

To win in the playoffs, you need all of your team contributing / scoring. Leafs didn't get the scoring from the group to get it done.

Yeah, two or three timely goals would have made all the difference. But people freak out if I mention the best goal scorer in the league as part of the this conversation.

How do they not adjust their power play at all? The PP poop the bed after 6 weeks. It was easy as poop to defend. The lack of adjustments and the unwillingness to bench Marner crippled them. The PP thing was just wild. Like, really (frank)ing wild.

Hayes made a good point on Overdrive yesterday. He compared the Yankees to the Leafs (in terms of team history, financial might, etc). He wondered why there is so little anger and lack of change for the Leafs. If this was the New York Yankees, he made the point that there is no way Shanahan or Dubas would still have jobs and that a big trade or something would be happening. I mean, come on, how many years of failure has it been? Dubas keeps talking about the ‘process’... how about ‘results’??

Yet in TO firing these guys or pulling a big trade doesn’t even seem to be a conversation with the media and talking heads. He compared it to Stockholm syndrome. We have gotten so use to failure we just don’t know what to do...

Mason Appleton probably can't/won't be protected by the Jets. 900k 3rd liner that skates and hits and scores a few. He'd look really good in the Leafs lineup with that cap hit.

A few guys like that won't be protected so teams will be dangling them ahead of the expansion draft. Leafs need to work out a deal or two ahead of the draft or with Seattle.

Reminder - Dubas got the keys in the summer of 18'. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve all the criticism he's getting but it'd be a quick trigger after 3 years.

Also - Hayes was suggesting that Dubas/Shanny are facing little anger/criticism? What (frank)ing world is he living in ....clearly doesn't come to the Buzz ..or read the Star ...or the Sun ...or the Globe ...etc....

Thanks for asking Bobby.

Right now I count 4 Leaf forwards that need to be protected. They could protect 7.

And, part of my suggestion, was that they talk to Seattle directly. IE. Seattle makes a pick (say Appleton) knowing they have a deal in place with a team like the Leafs.

Tonnes of that poop will happen.
